My GM card came up big when I bought my C5 two years ago, but then I understand they changed their policy and omitted the 'vette from the list of cars that you can buy with GM card credit. Anyone with knowledge about this? Thanks

Yep...if you have the newer version of the card you are limited to a maximum limit per specific model car (GM makes that determination and I think the max for the Corvette is $1000).

If you held onto the earlier version of the GM card your maximum is limited, not by a maximum on a particular model, but it caps the amount you can earn per year--$500/year for a maximum of 7 years total accumulation...so if someone ran out the max($500) over the maximum # of years he could use a rebate of $3500. Right now I'm up to right at $2700 for my C6.

I have only had the GM card for a few months but I am up to over $1000 already. My dealer seems to think that they will only allow 500 on the C6, they are basing that on past experiences with past new releases on Vettes. I am hoping to talk them into more with some bonus bucks or something. I can easily **** away 10k to get another 500 on the card. $1500 total off would be sweet.

according to gmcard.com the corvette qualifies for up to $1000 credit. no model years are listed on any car so $1000 it is!

Why **** away $10,000 just to earn 500 toward a car? I'd just save the $10000 to put toward the car.

I think you miss the point. Most of these people that really benefit from rebate type cards use them for everyday expenses and pay them off monthly.

The catch is if you carry a balance month to month then the benefits of having such a card is nil.

Every day expenses is the key as stated above. The kick for me was when the grocery stores began taking credit cards. I have not gone for the new card version and saved the full $3500 on my '99 blazer and $1700 on the wife's 02 Impala. We play the game of stopping the use of the GM card when it hits the $500 limit for the credit year and switching to an airline mileage card until the GM card again starts adding credits.

it's definately worth running $20k through the account for a $1k discount as long as you are paying it in full or have their intro 0% 12 month interest rate.

Exactly the way to do it. My lifetime rebate is now over $8,000.

Yeah, now I get it. That's not a bad plan. I have one and think I'll start using it more often. I mainly use it for gas right now.

I know that is the truth for the C5 but it may change for the C6 because it is not available yet.
And yes the point is to use the card for my daily expenses and pay it off each month. I quit using the bank debit card for those expenses. And yes I **** away money like it is going out of style so it really isn't a big deal to put more money on the card.
