Default Museum delivery

If you opt for museum delivery, shouldn't you get rebate for destination charges?

No, because destination charges are now required to be the same for all vehicles.

All logic and reason would point towards a reduced destination charge for NCM delv.................

They have one destination chg for all, regardless of miles travelled. One can understand the flat rate in the grand scheme of things for run of the mill deliveries. But the NCM is a special case IMHO, I really think they could make an exception there, if for nothing else for improved PR. The perception of the full dest chg for moving the car a mile is a tacky one, and dirties the NCM delv process ever so slightly, I think.

Default Destination Charges

While it seems it should be fair, it's your government at work. Feds mandated the charge, so if you want it changed, call them. Also keep in mind the museum is a totally seperate orginization and not financially connected to GM. WE the NCM members support it and in fact they make very little "profit" from the delivery. They don't get the $800, only the $490. And after your first museum delivery, you will agree a great deal.

For about 8 weeks during June-July 2002, the cars weren't even loaded on a carrier. Museum personnel would just go over to the transport center and drive the cars back to the Museum. My 2003 Anniversary Red coupe was one of them. That should add about $5,000 to the trade-in price.

Later in 2003, an agreement was made to satisfy the transports (teamsters?) union. All new Vettes delivered to the museum are now loaded on a regular transport, driven across the street and unloaded at the museum.

How do the Feds have anything to do with the transport (teamsters) union ?

I don't like the fact that everyone has to pay the same $800. Why should I living in Indiana have to help pay for a C6 being delivered to California?

It doesn't seem right.
If you want to privately ship your car then the cost will vary by the distance it has to be shipped.
I would think that the cost of shipping a car a few hundred yards (from assembly plant to museum) would be around $25. But $800 is not a reasonable price!!!
It would not be such a bitter pill to swallow if the musuem got the 800 but unfortunately they don't.
I'd feel better if they screwed me the $800 and I had the option of NOT PUTTING THE CAR ON THE HAULER. But to get hosed the 800 and then they go and slap my new car on the hauler...that adds insult to the ripoff!!

So, by your logic, the Chevy dealer in Bowling Green should have a price advantage over one in Seattle?

If you either live in Bowling Green or want to pick it up in Bowling Green, what's the problem with that?

Change the destination charge to $0. That will satisfy the federal regulation.

If the destination charge is regulated to be equal for all deliveries how is that charge determined? If it is by average cost, it's difficult for me to believe that would result in a charge of $800. Compared to the 2004 MY destination charge of $600 the 2005 charge is a %33 increase. These charges seem to be based on something other than reality.

From what I have been told, there is a law mandating that the charge be the same for all dealers. If that information is wrong, then nothing and I retract my comment.

Yea, it really sucks, I've opted for museum delivery, but, still, $800 EXTRA bucks go straight to some fat-cat's pocket..... for absolutely nothing....

Yes, the $800 goes, but it doesn't go for nothing. How do you think they pay for all those huge rebates and 0% financing on SUV's???
