"Red" Corvettes of the past
I was driving my yellow C5 today and came upon a red C4 - the color however was darker then Torch Red and I was curious to see what other color "reds" GM used on past versions of the vette. There has been so much back and forth on the Precision and Victory Red lately I was wondering if anyone had the history on "the reds"? I am making the switch from yellow to Precision Red (order confirmed) for my C6. Thanks folks!

Just to give you a brief history of the reds from the Corvette Black Book for the C4s and C5s:
1. Bright Red was usually about 25% of the total vettes made from 1984 through 1992.
2. Ruby Red in 1993 was about 33% of the vettes made that year, while Torch Red made its appearance for about 16% of the vettes made that year.
3. Torch Red accounted for about 25% of the vettes made in 1994 through 1999.
4. Light Carmine Red Metallic came along in 1997 (381 coupes) and in 1998.
5. Magnetic Red Metallic came along in 1999 with about 8% and lasted through 2002.
6. Torch Red dropped to about 20% for 2000-2002.
7. Anniversary Red accounted for about 30% of the vettes made in 2003, while Torch Red dropped back to 14%.
There were some dark reds not mentioned above, called Dark Red Metallic and Black Rose Metallic.
(Don't have the number of cars of each color for 2004, but Torch Red and Magnetic Red Metallic were the 2 reds).

Is that because Mag Red Metallic II: The Sequel came out in 2003?

The Corvette Black Book doesn't mention Magnetic Red Metallic in 2003. It only mentions Torch Red and Anniversary Red. Magnetic Red Metallic is mentioned in 2004, but the book doesn't have the number of vettes made of each color.

It's about 4 in. wide by 9 in. tall and is bound. It's printed every year. The latest one has info. about each year's corvettes from 1953 thru 2004. It has all the options available, what they cost, etc. It also lists how many were made of each color (except for 2004). There are 2 pictures of each year's vette in the back.

Bought my current copy through Mid America Motorworks, www.madvet.com, but Eckler's also carries it at www.ecklers.com. It's "The Corvette Black Book" for about $15.99.

My 2000 Coupe is Mag Red II.
EDIT: By Dec, I mean Dec 1999, for the mid-2000 model year. (I picked up my 2000 Vette 29 Dec 99, and it was a Mag Red II.)

I'm blaming it on the Corvette Black Book! It didn't tell me about Mag Red Metallic II in 2000. Thanks for keeping me straight Hurricane.

My 95 is dark red, 84-90 dark red metallics were different than 91-96's...the earlier dark red metallics had more of a rust look and later dark red's 91-96 was based on brilliant red.
