Default Is the Navigation System

radio any better than the mp3 radio? Or any better than the base radio? (Not considering the fact of loading 6 cd'S). Sound Quality only!

do you still get the mp3 option and the 6 disk changer with the navigation system if you order 1SB?

good question though.

In a word, no. The U3U Navagation option replaces the US9 option. It still has the RDS AM/FM stereo with CD Bose 7 speaker sound system, just without the 6-Disc CD changer and MP3 playback capability. I thought I saw in Ken's newsletter that coming later this year, there would be a 6-disc changer not in the dash) that could be added as an accessory for those who choose the Nav system.

Default No MP3 with Nav!?

That is unforgiveable. There is no reason a single CD player in a 2005 car should not come with MP3 capability. If this is true, I have to believe the MP3 capability has been deliberately DISABLED. There is virtually no additional cost to putting MP3 capability into a CD player.

Has anyone confirmed this?

It's the difference between getting 15-20 tracks on a CD vs 150-200. Essentially, you get a 10CD changer if you can play MP3s at 128kbps.

One of the car dealers who support this forum, Monica@Maxieprice, I think, tried it when given an opportunity to drive and examine several C6s, and reported POSITIVELY that the sound system with the Nav (U3U) does not support MP3 playback.

I think there is a simple way around the mp3 issue... just convert the files to .wav files and burn your CD's that way...and Im pretty sure its gonna read that.... thats what Im gonna do...

Yes you could do that, and tote 10-12x as many discs around in your car.

This is one we should complain to GM about. I would be a programming issue to fix this and that is just a DVD away. The thing should play DVDs also. I was reading where years ago Denso had developed mp3 playback in its nav units. What would be the value in deleting these features unless there is some sort of memory issue. GM needs to hear this one.

Default As much as I like the *appearance* of the Nav system>>

the exact reason I did not order it is because of the 6 CD and Mp3 delete. There is only so much I will pay for the *cool* factor but when functionality takes a dive so does the option. Here is one I haven't seen..is there a visual difference between the standard stereo vs the premium stereo with XM?

I did the same. It wasn't a choice I wanted to make though. I wonder why they couldn't design and engineer an in-dash NAV that did support the 6 CD changer and MP3. It was the 6 CD changer that made me opt out of the NAV. The other concern I had about the NAV design was that each time I wanted to insert a CD I had to open the faceplate. That just looked like something waiting to break from constant opening and closing. I get the impression from the C6 literatue that the faceplate has an electric motor driven open/close. If true that also point of failure I didn't want.

They could have eliminated what looks to be an ashtray at the bottom of the center console stack.

I think I may try one of the Garmin portable NAVs. I have a 2003 Acura TL without NAV so it makes sense to have 1 unit I can use in both cars.

I know the engineers don't want to be sent questions directly from customers but it would be nice if there was some online customer support at Corvette for many of the questions found on the CF. We could stop a lot of this guessing and misinformation sharing.

This is just plain nuts. Many cars are providing jacks to allow iPOD's etc to be plugged in and played. Recently even the Mini was offering a free iPOD with the purchase.

When will GM and Chevy get there head out of their XXX?

Maybe this is their way of trying to get us to buy XM radio, which we don't want, of course, because the antenna is so ugly

I understand that the 12 disc CD changer is available NOW and will easily plug into the system.... soooooo why would we want to wait for a six disc changer that will still be in the back and still not MP3.... I can live with the 12 disc.... it will hold all the music I care about

The U66 base audio system, standard with the 1SX and 1SA, is rated at 192 watts and has 7 speakers. The U65 Bose premium system. standard with the 1SB and included with the NAV option, is 212 watt Bose system with larger 10" woofers and top-up/top-down volume equalizer for convertibles.

The lack of MP3 capability was grounds for NAV removal for me also. I admit, it looks cool, but I change CD'S (non-MP3) way too often for the motor that lifts the screen to last. I really wanted the NAV, but the functionality of the in-dash 6 made better sense.

I would have been happy with just the 1-disc in dash with MP3 capability.
