I live in the Northeast and we're getting pounded by a snowstorm. The local NBC affiliate decided to preempt the 2005 North American International Auto Show with a local update on the storm.

PS, they just broke in to the auto show coverage to report that Johnny Carson has died. That's sad. I met Johnny at a telethon we both worked about 25 years ago and had the chance to talk to him for quite a while. What a real gentleman.

In typical fashion, the commentators have no idea what theyre talking about....I'll watch Speed channel when I want something that is actually accurate. Sad to see the whole world has sold out to NASCAR, the lowest form of racing out there

Just saw the new Hemi Charger. Ugh, 4 doors. What is the world coming to? I wanted an updated General Lee.

NASCAR mandates all cars to have solid axles, CARBURATED engines, a curb weight of 3400 pounds, and a FOUR speed manual gearbox! I know NASCAR will never be Formula 1, but if a Kia came out with any of those features today the press would eat it alive. My main objection to NASCAR is that the cars use 1950s technology. Im certainly not a fan of oval racing, I prefer both left and right turns during a race, but I would have far less problems with the sport if there were actually some technology in the cars that could actually be shared/based on that which makes it into the street cars. Stock car racing is great if they were to do it like British Touring Cars, or the Austrailian Supercars, or German DTM, but not with solid axles and carbs. Too bad the big three dont give more support to ALMS. Id love to see a NASCAR where the cars are C6Rs going up against Vipers and heavily modified Mustangs or Ford GTs on both ovals and road courses. Thats racing...

This was a complete fluff piece.

I agree, not much on the Corvette. However, I had a different take. The other mfgs had "civilians" driving their cars and I don't know about you, but I wasn't impressed with driving around little cones when you couldn't even tell what speed they were going or how it handled. Corvette seemed to be saying "people like Jeff Gordon drive our car" and "we're not going to show off unless we can do it right". The commentators were constantly making remarks like "they actually let you drive their car?" Corvette didn't go there. It was an auto show and Corvette "showed" their car.
