You can make a turd as fast as you want, but it's still a turd.

I"m curious as to how old you are. I am old enough to remember the muscle cars of the late 60's. I remember what happened in the early '70s. It took about 25 years to get back to the horsepower levels that was lost. GM built some relatively available and affordable engines that put out around 400 horsepower (in today's "net" terms) in the late 60s and very early 70s. It wasn't until the ZR1 in 1994 (I think that's the year it got 405) to get back to those levels.

Will GM history repeat itself once again?
To this list at the 04 - 05 GTO. 350 vs 400 HP.

I love Vettes and this is a Vette board. However the Viper has been kicking it's *** since the early 90's. Albiet for much more money.
Calling the Viper a turd is harsh. It's cool if you don't like how it looks. Style is always personal and thank God we don't all drive the same thing.

The new Z06 should be awesome. A little shy in the styling department but a sweet machine and the ONLY Vette to hold a candle in performance in decades. You really neeed to remember that. AND wait till you see what it really does...

As far as the increase in performance for next season for the Viper...
You can count on it. Not so hard to do with 500 Massive Cubes.

Politics and greedy oil companies killed the horse power wars.
look close at the history of vehicles. They always increased in power until the oil crisis.

Technology allowed clean hi performance engines again along with cleaner fuels.

Will the Z06 progress with more refinement and more power...
Sure it will. Why would it not?
You can bet they are refining it right now and finding better ways to do what they are doing now.

Vette loyalty it great but don't let it make you blind and forget it took all these years to equal a Viper.
Should I add that it holds it's value way better than a Vette could ever dream of....wise people will consider this when the price is a respectable investment.

I'm betting on the three valve heads to show up for '07. They're developed and just waiting....

Variable displacement for 07' will be gaining more MPG for the Corvette.

The General is going to HAVE to upgrade the HP. The 300C has over 400 and A LOT of new cars either are really close or over it already. 2 years ago when they were giving out stats on the upcoming C6, 400 was a lot.

However, that is not the case anymore. The C6 is just on of many, instead of top of the list. If they arent careful it will get lost amidst better made cars. HP is really the only thing they had that was worldcalss.

I know that you are a young guy (you have reminded me of that many times ), so I'm going to let you in on a little secret. In the history of the Corvette, there have always been many cars with as much horsepower. Somehow, the Corvette has survived it all. The Chrylser 300's of the '50s have had as much (or more) horsepower as the Corvette. In the '60s, you could buy damn near anything GM made with the same engines that were available in the Corvette. There were Plymouth and Dodge SEDANS with Hemi engines in them that put out more horsepower than the Corvette engines of the time.

Yes, there were some very limited production engines that were exclusive to the Corvette - BUT GUESS WHAT? There is about to be a Corvette that will also have an exclusive engine, with 505 hp. Are you forgetting about that?

I'm not an anarchist, but I agree. I think the US is headed for incredibly serious problems and don't think our Z06's will be much worth anything in a few years. We will be trying to trade them for some food rations and perhaps a few weapons to protect that food supply. The again, they could always be used to make those high speed food runs.

Are you f*cking serious?
I'm sorry man, but if you are, that is w/o a doubt the most ridiculous thing I've ever read.
