Rear Window-Glass or other material
There was a report someone gave of the SAE Conference in April.
Included was this line:
They are looking at other technologies than glass for rear hatch.
I believe the logic was to reduce weight and lower the CG.
1. Are there other cars with a synthetic window?
2. Could someone ask people in the know if Chevrolet is still considering this?

probably glass.
The focus is on removing weight up front, or if it cant be removed move it to the back (battery).
The glass is heavy, but its in the back of the car and lightening it would further screw with the weight destribution.

A Euro-spec Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale can be ordered with manual Lexan side windows and rear hatch. These are not DOT-legal over here in the good old US of A.
I believe that Z06 preview in Motor Trend (March-ish?) stated that Dave Hill and Co. considered other materials besides glass, but those failed UV and scratch-resistance tests.
I also agree with the previous poster - removing rear weight in a car like the Z06 is not as critical as removing it from the front. If they wanted to reduce CG, they might take a page from the M3 CSL/M6 and make the roof out of carbon fiber. Personally, I wish the Z06 was something like 45/55 F/R, but I'll take whatever we can get.
