Default Red Engine Beauty Covers Don't Cut It

When is GM going to make an engine look like an engine again? With so much plastic covering GM's engines these days, they look like they were made by Mattel, not an auto company. The Z06 engine is being hand built, so they didn't have to use the same old ugly beauty covers, to hide the same old ugly accessories. They could have rearranged the accessories and plumbing, neatened things up, and given us an engine that looks like an engine. The Corvette team should study the Maserati V8. Now THAT'S a nice looking engine, that you would be proud to open the hood and show people.

Let's get back to having engines look nice again, especially one that puts out over 500 horsepower.

ever look under the hood of an 03 cobra? looks sweet and doesn't cost a "bazillion" dollars. I think this is one of THE biggest shortcomings of the car.

Your right it doesnt cost a bazillion dollars. But it also sucks

I prefer my engines to be better than a 93 cadillac.

I personally like the engine covers and think they give the engine compartment a clean look.

I figured they were just there to keep idle fingers away from the coil packs.

Just do what I do......take the covers off. Now it looks like a motor.

I agree, those covers take away a lot of the motor look. Take a look at the Audi S4. The V8 doesn't have those covers over the heads. Looks awesome.

WIth those coil packs, it looks terrible. Look at the viper v10. Now that looks like an engine and doesn't cost a bazillion dollars to do.

I like the engine covers, perfect autograph pieces. I have them on my 01 Z06, one covers is for the C5R (at the time) race team and the other for other notables - John Cafaro, Dave Hill, etc. Looks cool and gets lots of interest with the hood up.............like what is all the scribbling on your red covers? Or do you want me to sign your car?

And Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW agree. But, hey, what do those companies know about styling and quality of appearance?

It also gives the corvette motors a unique look, which I also like.

Vette motor w/o beauty shrouds show the homely valve covers:

This is the way to do the valve covers ( Or the nice ones on the Viper 's V10 ) :

Not my car anymore, but here is a pic of the polished LT5 from my dearly departed ZR-1.
