[Z06] Will this Eliminate Glove Box and Center Console Heat...

Much to my surprise the steel tunnel plate does indeed reduce the creaking that seems inevitable on my driveway. I don't have the equipment to measure the actual increase in torsional stiffness, but I'm amazed every time I drive away now. Frankly, I added the plate on a lark (because I was doing the exhaust anyway) and thought all I'd have was some pretty "added mass". My take - GM should make this part beefier stock.
BTW, Elite Engineering implies the 3/8" aluminum plate will be stiffer than the .125" steel plate. Unless they know something about steel or the aluminum alloy they're using I don't, the steel should actually be a little stiffer at these thicknesses.

Has anybody wrapped the exhaust pipes that go down the center of the car with header wrap? I am thinking of trying that but have heard of metal fatigue from retaining the heat in the exhaust pipes? Any thoughts!

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Never heard of the fatigue bit

Came across this stuff

Might be a much cheaper alternative

I've installed the 160 stat just because I don't like the AC shutting down at long stop lights. It doesn't however reduce any heat coming through the console. I haven't installed headers yet but when I do I plan to buy a set of Melrose ceramic coated. I've contacted them to see how much it would cost or if it's even possible, to coat the rest of the exhaust as far as the rear muffler connections. To each his own but this is an issue and for me........just me......ceramic coating is the way to reduce in cabin temps.

I have a tunnel heat shield (http://www.jegs.com/i/Thermo+Tec/893...FVBp7Aoddi0AkQ), and it helped a little bit...but it basically just postpones the heat soak. Once the tunnel area is heat soaked, nothing really helps.
I'm thinking of going with the Exotic vettes insulation kit that lines the whole interior floorboard of the car. Stuff only weighs a few pounds and is supposed to be real good at cutting down heat and road noise.

See my post in this thread. Header wraps made a significant improvement.

You can get very similar stuff from home depot and Lowe's, probably what I'll be doing.

What did you expect him to say? That GM engineered a weakness into the frame of the car? Unlikely that you'd hear that.

i just added headers and x pipe to car... it was hot before and i complained of it...
When installing the headers and x pipe i asked for them to be heat wrapped. Also had the car insulated with some heat sheilding reflective mat under the carpeting of the interior all over the trans tunnel and under the seats and behind the seats.
Still hot as ***** in the car, and i have a 160 thermostat also.
