Default What Fuel To Use When Filling Up The Z06

I am just curious to see what gas everyone is using for their Z06. I've been using BP, but just recently been filling up at Sunoco.

My cars only use Sunoco Ultra 94, I find it actually provides the best fuel economy and the most power.

Is Chevron covered by one of the above?

Shell 93
Quick Trip 93

Both are top tier gas providers.

i own a Velero truck stop (built new in 2002). i'v been in the business for 19 years and used to have a Fina truck stop. Velero is very good gas. the best IMO is Fina but they are going out of business is 08 and their stores have been mostly re-branded.

if you live on the boundry of a big city, choose non-RFG over RFG gas

btw, Quick Trip uses unbranded gas which sells 1-2 cents cheaper at the rack than the brand name gas.

non branded are cheaper to make because they omit some of the additives used in brand name gas.

the brand name gases like fina, exxon, mobil, ect are moslty on the same level so you're basically shopping for heighest octane or best facilities.

for the best fuel, choose on the following 3 criteria. the most important factor is the station itself. older stations can introduce contaminents into your tank because they have old in ground tanks, lines, pumps.

next choose on branded over non branded to get the additives and then on octane rating.

Exxon and maybe Citgo are the only ones of your choices that live in SoCal. I'm really not that fussy - BP Arco tends to be the cheapest of the branded gases out here, so I'll use that if convenient, and also Exxon and Shell, sometimes but rarely 76.

Thanks for the lesson!

I use Mobil because of the speedpass convenience.

Has anyone experimented with 100 octane gas? What would be the benifits (if any) you would see without having a car tuned for 100 Octane? Thanks

Sunco is not in So Cal area, atleast in San Dieog. Any branded station like Exxon, Cheveron, Shell are the way to go. You really should mix 50/50 unleaded 100 oct. to get the most out of the aluminum Ls7, anything less and you really are not getting all you paid for with respect to performance. The 91 pump is weak, and you can hear it ping, watch the tack surge and feel the car gitter here and there.
Found the same to be true in two different Z06 2006 and 2007....same
motor.

I hope it's not hurting anything, but I am only using Sunoco GT 100 fuel in my 06 Z06. The local station has a dedicated pump for it. I just don't want to put anything with ethanol in my car. It's not my daily driver and only in use on weekends. Now that Ultra 93 ( NJ ) is around $3.50 , I'm not even feeling the $6.50 a gallon price of the GT 100. The only complaint is the race gas smell when I get in the car after not driving it for a few days.

What is the highest rated octane you are able to get in LA? In the San Diego area it is only 91 octane. I only buy Exxon/Chevron for the Z06.

Thanks,

BP, Sunoco and Costco. After BP's recent pipeline problem though, this may not be a choice.

Chevron, Shell, Exxon in that order if available. I also like newer stations(newer tanks). If not, then I look for non-blended gas. In my area blended gas is not required, but some do carry it. My least favorites are ARCO and 76 (although I used 76 recently at an HPDE day because I was so low on fuel and station was across the street from the track-I didn't notice any performace difference).

QuikTrip has to meet the same standards as branded stations with their grade of gasoline to be recognized as top tier.

i hear you but when the tanker pulls up to the rack to fill up, QT gas is priced 1-2 cents lower than the branded gas. looks like the cost to produce non branded gas is still lower even when given the top tier certification.

if i switched to the QT gas, i can save that 1-2 cents but dont want to go non branded

When you burn 87 the computer knows this and lowers your timing and changes the advance curve so you lose power. Seems like with a Z you would not want to do that.

I use Sunoco when I can.The local station use to Carry 94.Now they only Carry 93.I used 101 at the track once when I ran out of gas.I must say there was a noticeable difference in throttle response. At $6.50 a gallon I was glad to see an improvement.
