[Z06] Oil pressure on track

Oil pressure on track
My oil pressure today after a 30 minute session on the track was 18psi at idle. Oil temps were about 260-270 as I pulled into the paddock. Oil was Mobil 1. Anybody else experience pressure this low?

Maybe the low pressures are a symptom of a bigger problem.

Mobil1 runs VERY thin on the weight scale. A lot of the F-body guys run the German Castrol 0w-30 as it runs on the thicker side of the weight scale. The GC is more like a 5w-40 when the Mobil15w-30 runs on the thin side and acts more like a 5w-20.

After a hard run at VIR, I got "Low oil pressure" warning.
It read 8 (eight) ! (Temps about 235*, and oil level right in the middle of the dipstick)
The pressure came right back up, but this can't be normal.
Or can it?????

I understand this might be part of it being a dry sump and all.... but that must be kinda scary. I have noticed that the oil pressure is all over the place in these cars. I have seen mine as high as 112(2 min after start up at constant 3k) and as low as 38(On a hot 90+ degree day after 2 hours of driving and at idle)... but I have not done any road course work to heat the oil like that. A wide range!!!!!

I have been watching my oil presures closely over the last few track days. In late July 105 degrees outside I saw oil temps near 300 and OP around 28-30 on the track at 6000 rpm. That scared me so I did a cool down lap and the temps dropped fast and back came the OP.
Yesterday at Thunder Hill I saw temps around 250-260 and my OP stayed 45-50psi at 6000 rpm. 25-28psi at idle.

An owner I know started getting readings that low and...the next thing you know a crate was being sent from Wixom

If you continue to run at the track with low pressures like that, you'll be on your way to engine #3. You are also risking a denied warranty claim because of multiple failures. Remember that they can download engine and vehicle data such as speed, RPM, oil pressure etc. in the time leading up to failure. If you were racing, it will be obvious.
So if it were me, I'd keep it on the street until the LS7's oiling problems can be resolved.
