Default Tired of hearing about 08 600 HP Viper![Merged, ALL Viper talk here]

Went to the gym today for a workout and drove the C6 ZO6. I was not there for 5 minutes and the Trash talking started about the 08 600 HP Viper. About 5 guys talking trash about the ZO6....."Your new Z will get blown away by the 600 HP Viper". This and that. So, I was thinking.........about what rear wheel HP would represent 600 HP at the motor. I have the Halltech Stage 1 and soon the Stage 2. Was going to get the ported Intake manifold next. Without headers or going into the motor, is it possible to reach 600 HP with the C6 ZO6??

Thanks for the info!!

My friend: your car is 500 lbs lighter than the viper. Even at stock power levels, you are likely going to beat him on the street. Add some headers, a halltech filter and tune, and you'll not likely lose. Better coefficient of drag AND lower curb weight make the Z a VERY tough car to beat. The Viper will need a solid 700 hp to put a few car lengths on a new Z up to 150 mph.

Anyone know the power to weight ratio?
This would shed light on this subject......

The new Viper is ugly and will probably end up being 15K to 20K more than the Z06. Price difference enough to mod and kick the hell out of the new Viper, and look better while doing it. I would take a Z any day. As a matter of fact I will take two please.

You are correct, the new Viper is exactly $20,000 more than a Z06. Since a Viper has zero options or amenties, you can't compare it to a 2LZ options Z. Only a base no option Z at $70k.

Who cares about options or amenities? Or cost? We are talking about performance - not performance of the stereo or the thick matte of the carpet, but the actual performance numbers of the car that involve physical statistics. If you want a caddy, buy one - Vipers are bought to either pose or perform. I'm going to pretend it is for the latter. Z06s don't have to hide behind "options" defenses - they got the ***** to toe to toe with the new Viper.

That is all.

Don't let the peanut gallery give you static about something they'll only read about.

This has almost zero to do with who is "king". Also would not affect my buying decision

Imagine what they are going to say on Tuesday afternoon when Dodge drops the real bomb about the Viper.
The SS is going to be needed sooner than expected.

Thanks!! I love my 2005 All Black Limited Edition GSXR1000, got it from Canada....long story.

I would think that with a few basic mods and a good tune 600 HP at the motor would be great!!
I get ragged alot about the C6 ZO6 believe it or not!! There is alot of modded cars in my area. There is some great Tuner shops near me and there is alot of stiff competion on the roads. I love the fact that I can run 196 MPH and get 30 MPG!! I just get tired of all the BS about the 600 HP Viper.

hmmm.....about 250lbs actually. That's IF the '08 still weighs 3400lbs. I expect the Viper will dyno in the 530rwhp range so if the weight stays the same a full bolt on Z06 at least give it a good run.

The new Viper is rated 600 HP with the new SAE standard. That is significant, because I don't think the Halltech mods are rated with the new SAE standard (Sorry if incorrect Jim), so it is difficult to compare. To get to a true 600 SAE HP, I think you are going to need a radical cam. Katech can help you with this as they actually measured the SAE numbers with their cams. I don't think any other aftermarket company has measured their gains with the SAE standard. You probably don't need 600 SAE HP to beat the Viper anyway. You are lighter, better drag coefficient, better gearing, etc.

I think, however, people will be suprised how much the new viper puts down on a cahssis dyno and will say it is overrated. The new Viper motor is serious. The y are also going to offer PS2's as an option on the Viper, which will help it perform well in comparo tests.

Currently, the Z06 is .4 to .5 tenths faster than the current Viper in the quarter. It will be interesting to see how much the new Viper really weighs. My new MT issue says (approx 3400 lbs) and 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. It might be a closer race than what people think. As Ranger would say, learn how to become a better driver and the extra HP in the Viper won't matter. He beat my 1/4 mile times with 80 less HP.

These companies are always going to try and "one-up" each other. This competition is great for us all. So I don't care what people say about the Z06. It's a break through kind of car and it IS the reason the new Viper is going to have 600 HP. Next time someone gives you grief about this, tell the you are buying a Blue Devil and that will shut them up.

With the +100 HP the Viper's Power to Weight improves to beat out the Z06 in that catagory.

2008 DODGE VIPER
BASE PRICE: $90,000 (MT est)
VEHICLE LAYOUT: Front engine, RWD, 2-pass, 2-door coupe or conv
ENGINE: 8.4L/600-hp/560-lb-ft (est) OHV 20-valve V-10
TRANSMISSION: 6-speed manual
CURB WEIGHT: 3400 lb (MT est)
WHEELBASE: 98.8 in
LENGTH x WIDTH x HEIGHT: 175.6 x 75.2 x 48.6 in
0-60 MPH: 3.6 sec
EPA city/hwy fuel econ: Not yet rated
ON SALE IN U.S.: Mid-2007

The Z06 has a Weight To Power 6.4 lb/hp
The Viper will better this, but I do not know how they calculate this exactly.....they may average the TQ and the HP, either way, the Viper will better the current Z06.
But the weight distribution will still be not as good as the current Z06 which is 50/50.
This will degrade the overall performance of the Viper on the road course test.

Bruce

ps.
time for that cam upgrade for another 90 hp?

Sounds about right to me. It will also probably get 12 MPG.
