Default New TR-6060 Transmission for 08 Z06

Sounds terrific.
Wonder what this might be worth in E.T. with our best drivers flogging it.

Could be time for an upgrade.

What car is your tr6060 trans in now? I thought it was a new transmission?

I've got an '06 Z06 with the soon-to-be "old" T56 trans and it makes the "coffee can full of marbles" noise in 1st gear at low rpm clutch engagement... Just like all the other T56 Z06s I've heard.

From my understanding this new tranny is in the GT500 Shelby's...Drove a buddies Shelby and yes it's very smooth, precise and not as notchy. How it will take the abuse we can throw at it we'll just have to wait and see...

That noise won't go away in the 2008 Z06 with the TR-6060. The noise is due to the engine-to-transmission tunnel. The vibrations of our beloved big engine are well... big. It makes that noise in any gear when torturing the engine (too small rpm, too much load, not enough gas).
Just give it progressive clutch with more gas! Drive it, not baby it!

I don't do that except in reverse to control the speed going in Reverse out of my twisty driveway. Also happens during the first 1 or 2 transitions from clutch in to first in the AM. BTW that answer wasn't very cute nor helpful

Steve, you may want to be care riding any clutch like that to control vehicle speed. It can certainly shorten your clutch life and possibly put hot spots on your flywheel which can cause chatter.

Dan
Just talking about 1 second when going from rev to first, don't really "ride it" at all, just going easy on it.

Here is a review of the TR-6060 from Mustang Magazine:

So you might be wondering exactly how a Tremec TR-6060 compares with the T56 you know and love. In short, it’s better in just about every way. It can handle more torque thanks to a move from a 10-spline input shaft to a 26-spline unit. Moreover, the new case is stronger, the countershafts are one-piece units, and the gear faces are wider. All these changes add up to much greater strength, which we’ll all appreciate after we start modding these cars. What we noticed while driving the car, however, was its easy, precise shifting despite the factory shifter.

The prime movers in the better shifting are increased synchronizers on all the gears. Where the Terminator T56 had only two synchros on the 1-2 and 3-4 shifts and single synchros on the remaining gears, the TR-6060 offers triple synchros on the 1-2 and 3-4, and dual synchros on all remaining gears, including Reverse. Plus, the synchronizers have been upgraded from a carbon-particle paper to a sintered-bronze material.

Gt500 Transmission Gears
A larger input shaft, beefier gears, more synchronizers, closer gear ratios, and more make this six-speed one that should become a popular aftermarket upgrade.

So this transmission shifts easier, but it also offers a shorter shift throw. “The synchronizer hubs are much narrower, reducing fore and aft shift travel,” Tremec’s Jim Averill explained. “Additionally, the hub system uses three encapsulated ball-and-coil-spring struts that are much more precise than the old-style hoop-and-stamped strut. This also adds to a smoother fore, aft shift.”

So the TR-6060 is smoother, stronger, and just better than its predecessors. That’s cool, but the better news for those who aren’t buying GT 500s is that Tremec will be rolling a lot of this technology into its aftermarket transmissions, so you’ll be able to put all the good stuff in your Mustang soon.

There was a time that the cutting edge tranny would be in the Corvette first. Now it's in a Mustang first?

Timing, gotta do QA some time.

Can anyone answer how much these trannies cost and would there be issues (with linkages, diff & input mating) swapping one out of an 05-07 car?
