I have the Katech Torquer Cam onboard and have driven my Z06 across the country and back again.
Fuel mileage: 25.5 mpg in 6th gear; 23.3 mpg in 5th gear.
The idle is not smooth, but I would be very disappointed if it was. The overlap is just right and street manners are perfect.
SW and I talked at length about this, and both agree that too much cam is not the way to go on the street.

We re-dynoed my red(track car)Z this morning. This car is one of the good running ones to start with, always been stronger than my blk Z. Now I have to work on the blk one some more . The only change from my last dyno was the addition of the "killer bee" intake/maf and a small retune. The air intake temp was 102 and in the dyno room it was 90. I also dynoed it with my HREs vs my stock wheels from last time. We did a direct before and after. Both cars have the same combination, cam, headers, port matched intake and tune. The red Z has no cats and the killer bee and vette-air..

Can you list what other mods you have? Hows the drivability especially at cruise speed? Thanks...
Blessings,

Hi SW. Did you ever get back to the dyno with the "Beeline" Filter I sent to Carlos for you?

SW, would you mind disclosing your cam? I am just curious, you see so many claiming this and that. And especially yours since you have NO HEADWORK other than perhaps springs. In the begining LPE wasn't doing any head work either, and now they have a package where they "hand port" the heads for an lots of cash extra. LGs package had some head work done on the exhaust port, mainly around the bowl area and they replaced the intake valve with a Xceldyne one peice valve vs the OE GM Ti valve using a lash cap. I didn't see any noticable advantages of the Xceldyne valve over the GM valve other than it was a once piece design vs a valve requiring a lash cap.
I am also in the developement process of designing a valve spring tool to facilitate easy removal of the valve springs in a LS7 and now the L92/LS3 head configuration. By the way did you use to own a black LPE ZR1 with a 368 LPE engine with stock cams, and a B&B exhaust system? If you did, the car is now here in Portland Oregon and belongs to a friend of mine.
By the way I really admire your garage!

The 2 Z's are nothing. Did you see all of his other cars? I've spoke with SW before over on Pro-Touring.Com about his 69 Mach 1 and his 69 Z. That's just the two that he's posted pics of here.

Not to hijack, but while we are on the topic of cam's.
Is there a Z06 cam upgrade that will pass the CA smog check - and give more power?
- What about a special smog tune?
I'm under the impression that both QM600 and the Katech cam are too aggressive to pass.
What about the LG cam's G7X1, G7X2 etc?
Cheers,
Nik

Not trying to change the subject of the cam debate but, SW I see that you run kooks headers, correct? What size are they? since the header debate has been just as big a discussion as cams I would like to know your thoughts on this subject? Anyone tried the New stepped Kooks 1 3/4" to 2" that Zip products is selling?

Tuning is the key! You can tune your QM600 Z to pass emissions. Actually, a good tuner should be able to tune any cammed up Z (Corvette) to pass the smog test.
Thanks,

ALLNTRL, I have the Kooks 1 3/4" headers.
kevettez06, the Mustang is not forsale, it will be at SEMA next month. My fastest street car is my Supra, but I have not taken it to the strip yet. My personal collection is different from my business inventory.
am124es2, the QM600 is a good cam, makes good power and has good drivability. It does not drive like stock, no matter who tunes it, but it drives well. You cannot put it in 6th gear at 1300 rpm, but anything above 1500-1600 it's fine.
I think getting the right cam in your car will give you guys the best bang for the buck. I really don't think spending money on heads are worth the small gains you will get..
