Check Engine Light after Mods/tune
Hi there,
I recently had some Mod work done on my 06 Z. A couple of days out I was traveling on the highway on a hot day and the check engine light came on steady. It has remained on. I have read through the posts on this and it seems like a relatively common problem. I have read that some ppl can tune the car so that the
O2 sensors dont throw codes even when they are still active. Others are deactivating the rear sensors. I have a code reader and got the following codes:
Stored:
P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1)
P0174 System Too Lean (Bank 2)
P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)
Pending:
P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)
Mods done:
American Racing LT Headers
Corsa high flow cats and exhaust
Lingenfelter cold air intake, 100mm MAF sensor
160 degree thermostat
Dyno tune
performance info:
stock:
run condition 88 deg
rwhp=431.31
max torque=402.22
mods plus final tune:
run condition 77 deg
rwhp=480
max torque=447.58
The car runs great, idles great, sounds great and is noticeably faster...like it needed to be faster! But it was something to do since I have had the car for a year and a half now. My wife doesn't get it but she understands my need for my toys .
Can anyone give me suggestions on the fix for the engine light. i am going to delete the codes first and see if it might have been that long highway drive in the summer heat. As I dont normally drive it that way maybe it wont recur but if it does I want to fix the issue
Thanks

When you put on long tubes and change the cats, sooner or later your going to get a CEL.
Go back to your tuner and have him take care of it.
As far as problems, shouldn't be any to your engine, you just won't be able to pass emissions.

Take it back to your dyno guy
Your 0420 and 0430 codes are from the rear 02 sensors. In your software, you will uncheck those codes. You need HP tuners software to do this (or your dyno guy's software). I don't know what the other codes are, I have to look those up, but most of this is for your tuner to work out.

I don't tune myself, I'm just one of those that knows enough to mess your car up for you.

Rich, it looks from the info posted that your tuner broke your car. Why would you not get him to make it right?
If you take it somewhere else, said tuner can blame whoever you took it to for the problem. I would not give him that out.
I would take it back to the tuner and say: "It's broke; it wasn't broke until you worked on it. You need to fix this for me." Bad grammar and all.
I wish you the best of luck getting it fixed.
