The 9500 is not better than the 8500 in sensitivity according to the manufactuer.
the extra cash is for the GPS circuitry that allows you to stop false alerts by you programing which alerts your receive that are false.....

IMHO they should have spent the extra $$$ reducing false alerts than charging you for the GPS cicuitry and making you expend effort to cancel them out.

but what the majority who buy the 9500i do not know is that the GPS blockout feature is flawed. There have been many reports on radardetector.net that the feature blocked out a real LEO threat using the same radar that was blocked out in the same spot before.

For instance you pass by the same walgreen store everyday and get a flase K band alert from the automatic doors. You block this out with the GPS feature. The next day an LEO parks near the same spot using the same K band radar frequency. You pass by the Walgreens and get no alert because for some reason the block out feature is not only blocking out the doors, but the LEO too....TICKET.

Now the GPS feature is not supposed to block out both..just the marked automatic doors and alert you to the new LEO present.

I don't believe Escort has fixed this flaw yet. Not to say that scenario happens often, but all it takes is one time to make your wallet lighter.

Go with the Valentine 1 or Escort 8500x50. I personally like the V1 best, but both units are good...so is the Bel Rx65.

There is no real answer here. They both are good. I have always had Escort, and love them. Escort has never let me down, so why switch now. It has paid for it self 10 times over.

I have the 8500x50

You cant go wrong with either one.

The V1 pictures are deceiving the V1 is actually smaller than the 8500x50. Its shorter, just as thick, and just a tad wider. You also get a case made entirely out of durable magnesium. better than plastic.

Default Both are good..V1 is better IMO

Gentlemen,

Over the years, I've had both (Escort 8500 and V1's) in various vehicles. Currently V1's in my STI, my Z, (and until recently previous 06and 07 C-6's) and have travelled probaly 160K mi in the last two years ... only got tickets when units were off or I had volume down.

The directionality arrows are very useful on the interstates, particularly with the current proliferation of unmarked state police cruisers in the midwest and south!!

...Plus the upgrades from Valentine keeps one abreast of the current police radar/laser/lidar technology.

V-1 gets my vote!

Happy New Year!!

Size (from smallest to largest):

Valentine One -> 16.20 cu. in.
Beltronics RX65 Pro -> 16.33 cu. in.
Beltronics STi Driver -> 16.33 cu. in.
Escort 8500 X50 -> 18.95 cu. in.
Escort 9500i -> 21.72 cu. in.

Weight (from lightest to heaviest):

Valentine One -> 181.5g (6.40 ounces)
Beltronics RX65 Pro -> 236.6g (8.35 ounces)
Escort 8500 X50 -> 253.7g (8.95 ounces)
Escort 9500i -> 269.2g (9.49 ounces)
Beltronics STi Driver -> 291.6g (10.29 ounces)

The Escort 9500i is the largest in size and the Bel STi Driver is the heaviest. The Valentine One is the smallest and lightest radar detector of the Top 5 radar detectors made today.

On top of the Valentine One being the smallest and lightest, it is the best at detecting radar and laser.

V1.

The arrows tell you exactly where the source is coming from.

My Z's V1 is mounted up high, just to the right of the mirror. At first beep you immediately look for the arrow and react accordingly. When driving my DD with Passport I hear a beep and immediately look for the arrow, but its not there. So I have to search in all directions. It's more important to know where the radar is than what band it is. For this valuable feature alone, I'd buy the V1.

Why are most online dealers selling the V1 for $500 and on V1's website it's only $399? Are the ones on V1 refurbished or something?

I have Escort X50s in the Z and in my truck but I want to try a V1.

I have had the V1 for a long time now, and would trust nothing else.....also have the extra "display" only unit that plugs into the side, normally this makes the main unit go dark when plugged in, but I had the make both work when piggy-backed. 2 displays in 2 diff locations....sometimes its not whether u detect....but how soon u see it and react

I think that the arrows are extremely useful. I love my V-1 but I need to get it wired into the rear view mirror. The cord hanging down to the lighter is a dead giveaway. What do I need to "hard wire" the unit directly to the mirror?

I have the mirror mounted V1. It has saved many tickets. I am due, I trust it too much! Oregon is not a friendly place for spirited sports car driving.
