Not sure what GM's analysis was, but that sounds like a plausible theory.

Mine were tightened to 160 ft/lbs several months ago and are holding fine without Loctite. Previous to this, they continued to loosen at the 118 ft/lbs setting.

I'm keeping an eye on it and will add Loctite if they ever loosen again.

Is it really necessary to replace the nuts as stated in the TSB? Or is application of lock-tight and tightening to the newly specified torque of 160 ft-lb an adequate repair?
