Default Approx cost of fixing "road rash"?

Hey all. So I washed my black Z (2008, 3700 miles) the other day, thought that the teeny tiny white specs on the bumper/around wheels was simply road salt. Turns out it looks like the beginnings of road rash . No clear bra for me (unfortunately), but now I'm thinking of getting the areas fixed (either resprayed or polished out if possible).

If anyone has gotten quotes on respraying/fixing the common road rash areas (bumper, around wheels, etc.) would you mind sharing?

Thanks

You would think that GM would use more coats of paint on the bottom third of the car. I have 9800 miles and have some nasty road rash already.

Really depends on the body shop. Probably could get it done from $300-2000

Default Rhino Coating

When I get enough rash to show where the "rash area" is, I'm thinking about the color-matched Rhino Coating. It can be put on smooth, without the popcorn look like in pickup beds.

It will probably show because of less gloss than the original finish, but in my mind's eye it will be better than the rash. Plus it is guanteed to stay tough.

Wonder if any of the racers have tried it?

Clear bra and rocker kit for me. I used the product from
invisiblemask.com.

Easy to apply and did a great job!

That stuff's pretty thick (compared to auto paint). I really don't think it would look "right". If you do it, please post pics though.. I'm curious.

After hundreds of dollars on 3 Vetts I went to the clear bra.

In my area, (up and down the west coast) but living in Oregon the Cinders and small rocks put on the roads during winter totally wipe out my rockers, fenders and lower hood areas.

I know they dont look great up close, but with the money I save on constant repainting I can add mods... (and will)

I now run clear guard on all my cars.

I getting my front bumper rapainted for $150(my buddys a pro painter ), then installing venture shield to the whole front. The only thing is I will still have a minute amount of rash on the fenders!

I just got a quote of ~$1600 to repaint the rear quarter road rash and blend it in. Its from a guy I know really well and specializes in 'vettes but tends to be expensive.

It' another ~$1400 to get the full 3M treatment (bumper, hood, rockers, quarters).

I'm debating whether it's worth that much coin. I sure wish someone would post a how-to install the 3M stuff for yourself (can't find the thread where I asked one of the vendors about this).

It's a car not a jewel. It's hard to accept when it's new but I've learned over the decades that you just can't keep it perfect. I don't like making the car ugly by putting a bra on it and even the 3M clear bra will get chips and dents in it over time. It's just a fact of life that it will eventually be chipped up. On my last 4 Vettes I've just gone and repainted the front bumper every 3-5 years or so for a few hundred dollars. Cheaper than a bra and looks better too. jmho

BTW - This isn't a "Vette" problem as some continue to say. Take a look at the Viper, 350Z, Porsche, M3, Audi TT forums etc.... They all gripe about this "problem." Minimize it if you can but just realize any car that sits low, is curvy, and has lots of painted parts facing forward or sticking out, rock chips will seem to happen more than on other cars. On my truck I don't notice or care, but the front end isn't solid paint, has chrome bumpers/grills, and the lines of the truck are straight.

That's crazy! If you were in Florida I could get you a much better price.

Just use a fine point black Sharpie for now. Works better than you'd think.
