Universal home remote Question/Problems
GM no longer uses the "Homelink" Universal home remote in I believe 07 and 08 models the current company is Car2u. I said no big deal I'll just program my garage door code into the Car2u visor. So to make a long story/ problem short I follow the owners manual instructions how to program. Well after doing this using the visor button it just does not work. I call the maker of my garage door opener Marantec and ask the if it's a rolling or fixed code(It's a rolling code) but my system does not have a learn button. They advise me their opener is not compatible with Car2u. Next up I call Car2u and they confirm that my opener is not compatible but they make a module that will convert the signal so that the visor will read it. Whew! what a PITA thanks GM! anyway the module is only 24.95 so I ordered it. Anybody else know why GM left "Homelink" other than save some pennies? Anybody go through this fun also?Greg

Had the same problem with my Ford Expedition. Just ended up buying another remote. If my 08 Z has the issue, I'll probably end up leaving a remote in the center console. You're right, it is a PITA

Can you tell me more about this module?
I have an '07.. it won't "learn"/clone existing non-rolling code remotes. You have to program in the dip switches. My '06Z would clone them.. so would my '02 Tahoe. Apartment remotes/gate remotes/etc that don't have dip switches, I could program in to my '06... I have no way of programming into my '07. So I have to carry an extra remote in my car. Maybe this module you speak of is the solution?
Cheers,
Andi

Here is a link to the module: http://www.learcar2u.com/conversionmodule/
How hard is it to convert an 07 to homelink? Is it as simple as just buying an '06 2lz driver's side visor?

Visor remote
I have an 08 coupe and I was able to "learn" the codes for the garage because it has a 'Learn" buttom. When I tried to program our development's gate no luck. I too called Chevrolet, the dealer and Learcar
Lear said I needed to get access to the 'Learn" buttom on the gate operator. Phoenix Fence came out today and took it all apart and I was parked about 10 yards away. They pushed the "Learn" buttom and I did my thing--No luck. I then called Lear again and they proceeded to ask , "How far away was I?" I said about 10 yards. They said I needed to be 5 FEET. Well, I am not paying Phoenix Fence a service call to come back out here so I told Lear you get with your people and set it up with Phoenix Fence and we'll try to do it again at 5 FEET. If that doesn't work, I asked what will they do? They said they would pay to have a new receiver installed. I said, we have 5 gate apparatus that a good remote can opener. Will your new receiver allow my car to then open the other 4? I haven't got an anwser to that one yet. I do know I can buy a new visor from C5/6reations that has Homelink sys. It worked because I bought one for my old 2001 and it worked fine. I'll try and keep you posted.

I just got my new Mild 2 Wild switch and spent an hour trying to program it into my 08 Z with no luck. Can I program the switch in the visor to open and close the exhaust?

No it will not work on a 08 Z. Mild 2 Wild is NOT compatible with the Lear2car which is the maker of your driver side 3 button remote.

I could only program the garage door opener in my '08 because it had a "learn" button and was the rolling code variety. I'm disappointed I couldn't program the M2W on the other two buttons but I'll get over it!

I blame this on GM switching vendors: From homelink to lear2car to save a buck. I've never had any problems using homelink in my other cars.

I've programmed a lot of garage door openers. This one just will not work with my static code door system.
Great, a dandy fix for my defective garage door system for only...How Much???
Just carry a small opener in my door pocket ($15). Much cheaper and absolutely no frustration whatsoever. Problem solved.

I have an 07 that was delivered last March. I believe I have the new system car2u. I had a problem also as the code that I took off the switch settings from the garage door opener would not work. What I found was that the switches on the opener itself were not the same as the switches in the hand opener. As soon as I matched up the switches on the opener in the garage to the push button opener the visor unit then would work. I hope this make sense because there seems to be a lot of confusion on this matter.

Car2u on their website list the garage door openers that are compatible with their system.Unfortunately my garage opener is not listed and does not have a learn button thus the module had to be purchased(Which has the learn button).
