Default 2010 Z06 Speculation

Just wondering what you folks think might be in store for the 2010 Z06. In my opinion a horsepower bump to 540 - 550 might be a good way to stimulate sales without too great an investment on GM's part. It still would not be in the ZR1 range but would separate it from 430 HP standard model option. With all the bargain basement prices on Z's now, I figure something has to be done to stimulate demand.

It seems to me that what they need to do is to cut production; however, this may not be possible with the existing supplier contracts. The excess production over demand is causing the huge discounts from MSRP and significant depreciation for the used Z's.

Just my 2 cents....

They are building too many Z06s. History shows that there is a limited market for two seat, manual transmission only cars at this sort of price point.

Of course part of the problem is the economy plus summer is over. But, even with discounts, a Vette is still well over 40k. And alot of us won't settel for a base model, so now you're looking at well over 50k, and that's not even getting into the Z06 range.

I was speculating on this very subject too. I can tell you the thing that tipped to me buy now rather than wait to see if there are any improvements was the fact there might be a possibility they go away altogether. Get'em while they last is my mind set.

I can't imagine GM bumping up horsepower in any C6 even if they thought they might sell a few extra Z06's. That might just agravate the Federal Government which expects GM to produce better mileage vehicles for bailout money. The best way to stimulate sales for the Z or Corvette is to produce less or none for the next year or so. Clean out the Dealers lots of all these low price Vettes. Create a demand for the Corvette. Restablish the confidence of owning a Corvette and retaining some decent resale value. In the mean time, have R&D develop a more gas efficient and high powered C7 for the future. Right now you can buy a new C6 for $39,000 and a new Camaro SS (when it comes out) for $31,000. That is way too close of a spread.

I speculate a 100% carry-over. GM has no money for any improvements - especially on a perfect car lol

I speculate that they are going to stop production of all future model Z06's and recall all the following models years: 2006's, 2008's, and 2009's. Ohh and all non-black 2007 Z06's. All recalled models will be destroyed and the owners will get 4 colbalts per Z06 to make things fair.

No more LS7 427, GM will go with smaler motors, reduced HP. Vets will get over 30 miles per galons.

If GM goes bankrupt, they will reorganize and emerge as a new company that will back up all pre existing warranties. They will have to if they want credibility as a new company. Same goes for any buy out from any other company.

I agree 100%. The big three are begging for a bail out in DC. It would be next to impossible to justify throwing money, no matter how little into a 7 to 8 thousand model build. If the feds pony up the dough you can bet they will have requirements for them to build low cost green cars and high economy models.

I don't think any of us have a good feel for how bad this thing will get before it gets better......... I expect no change in the C6's for 2010 which wouldn't surprise me if it was the last year for a Vette under the GM/Chevy banner.

Then the government will make you give 3 of the Cobalts to poor people.

I fully expect to see direct injection across the entire Corvette platform and possibly a mild HP bump from the DI.

The Z06 will get a direct injected 495 HP LS3 giving 30+ MPG and the base model will get a 375 HP 4.5L Duramax diesel giving 40+ MPG. Z06 production is cut and excess aluminum frames go to the Z51 option to make it lighter. The Z06, Z51, and base models all get the ZR1 brakes (smaller rotors on the base/Z51) and other changes to take out a total of 100 lbs. The ZR1 will stay the same and end production as a two year only car.
ZR1 performance stays the same.
Z06 performance is improved slightly.
Base model loses a little performance and the Z51 matches the base 2009 performance.

I only state the facts as I make them up.

At this point, it seems obvious that the Corvette has to stay basically the same for the next few years. They aren't going to spend tax payer money, money that they supposedly need by the end of this month to survive, on powertrain improvements for this car. No way, not for 2010. The car is already as good or better than its competition in ecomony and performance, so there's no justification. Just to sell to owners that already have a C6 and want an upgrade that looks just like the car they're trading in? Nope. That nutty group is way too tiny.

IMO, new powertrain money will go toward cars that will help them survive, and help their public perception. Not the Vette.

As far as I can see, the LS2>LS3 upgrade did almost nothing for sales, it was just a normal evolution of the product. So they won't do it for sales, and there's no money for evolution.

Any R&D for the big three at this point will most certainly go into more fuel efficient cars. I can't see it going any other way.

Its funny hows almost every week, there's a thread that pops up stating that the LS7 which has been unchanged in it 4 year life, would get a HP boost.

I vote Vette production gets slowed.. a lot. beyond that 2010 will be unchanged.

they "Could" bring the C7 back as a retro thing, since the critics love the retro look, and make it a straight 6 again.
