ZR1 battery keeps dying
I don't mean to sound ignorant. But my battery keeps dying in my ZR1. It dies in about a week and a half. I remember having this problem with my two C4 vettes. So, I called Optima Batteries today and told them my problem and I wanted to to buy an Optima battery. They said that they know of Z06's having this problem and they assumed that he ZR1 would be the same. I spoke to Chevrolet today and they told me that these cars have a really bad "key off" drain. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I know someone out there is going to rip me for driving it more often. But hey, I can only drive one hot rod at a time. Chevrolet told me to just keep a battery charger attached to it. I told them the battery is in the back so I would have to keep the deck lid open all the time then. That won't work. I thought about putting in a battery cut-off switch, but then the electronics wouldn't work to detect the key fob. I'd like to hear yall's experience.

You don't have a radar detector left on do you? The V1 pulls on a full 12v current. Killed my battery all the time if left on. Other units don't do it and actually some sense voltage drop and turn themselves off.

I have nothing in the car to drain the battery. The car is still the way it came from the factory.

I keep a battery charger on my ZR1 when I'm not using it. You can shut the rear hatch, the cord will fit through the crack without a problem. I have been doing this for a month now.

You probably have a bad cell in the batt - this happens all the time with batteries. Take it to GM and get a new one installed and be on your way. What does the DIC read voltage wise before you turn it off and notice it's dead the next morning? You should be reading 14.7~. If you start it again right after that and read it, what does it say?
I'm guessing you have a bad batt cell (not the whole batt), but it would still need to be replaced.

It's been my observation that the problem is specific to each car. I have a C6 vert that I keep a battery tender on that will drain if not run for two weeks or so but my ZR1 and Z06 will sit for long periods without draining. I have replaced the battery in the vert twice and the problem remains. I'm pretty good at sorting these type of things out but this one has me stumped.

My dealer just replaced my battery. Have you got that switch that opens the baffles it seems I remember reading it may drain the battery if the car sits long.

battery
Had mine since early Sept. It occasionally sits for a couple of weeks without running. Haven't had any problems yet. Good luck and please post what you or the dealer find.

doesn't the car keep certain computers "up" in the Fob is in range?
so a logical question following that is, do you keep the keys anywhere near the car?
After that I would measure the amperage being pulled off the battery when the car is sitting. that will atleast point you in the right direction.

My 06Z06 is a DD for almost 3 years now. Had to replace the battery after 2 years. The Delco OEM battery and the new Die Hard both act weak when the car sits for a couple or three days. I think there are at least two factors working against the Z06 and ZR1 and that is the placement of the battery in the rear. Long battery cables to connect forward to the engine compartment is never a good thing and GM may not have sized the cables to be a large enough wire gauge to reduce voltage drop. The battery is physically smaller to fit the rear compartment and that makes me really question its nameplate rating and durability. JMHO. I suspected when I first bought the Z that batteries might be a problem as I had similar issues with my 72 shark coupe.
