Joe that's very impressive! (Your run and the clutch durability).
Showed your video to one of our durability engineers and he loved it. Said he would show it to the clutch guy in the Corvette group.
Believe it or not there is a huge emphasis on durability. Engineers and techs pore over these cars and trucks looking for any potential issues. But I know, with all the bad press of late, there is a lot of skepticism about GM...
So I think I know your secret to clutch durabilty. Just how many cc's of Marvel Mystery Oil did you add to your clutch fluid?
Rock on Joe!!

Actually I do change my clutch fluid before every track event and after, I've done that since the car was new and I think it has been helpful in my clutch's longevity.
I am going to be very interested to see that clutch, if it ever goes. I've got 475 rwhp holding perfectly...delivering 1.4 60 foots at will. It's a great clutch.
And I absolutely know GM takes durability very seriously. The Vette is a wonderful example of a very reliable car that gets great mileage and will deliver track performance head and shoulders above what 95% of its drivers are capable of. All for a very reasonable price. A car to be proud of for sure.

By the way Don I have a spreadsheet of every pass along with HP Tuners scans of the vast majority, and a log of every gallon of fuel put in the car and every bolt turned since new...if you guys care to figure out what the "Pixie dust" my friends say must be in this clutch, I'd be more than happy to share all the details.

I can attest to Joe's clutch and durability... He's biggest secret??? He can DRIVE!!! Without a doubt, he's the best "rabbit out of the hole" Ive ever seen... add in the perfect setup he's got on that beast and you have a formula for success....
Now if I can only Vulcan mind meld with him... LOL

2012 Numero Uno!
AW1 is the code for 2012 model year. Other LS9 model year codes are:
2009 = ZAM
2010 = ZAN
2011 = ZAT
2011 customer build = B84
2012 customer build = B85
2013 = BY1
2013 customer build = B86
Not sure if there is a rhyme or reason to the code designations...

Happy New Year!! In July?
Oh and I forgot to mention that all LS9 long blocks were coded as J55.
Glad to share the Wixom wisdom with our Corvette friends!

As I recall the new model year engine production at Wixom was usually in July. These days not much inventory is left in the system so the time from engine build to Corvette build may only be a week or two. Perhaps it is longer for a higher volume engine plant...

Drove my Chevy to the Levee with a B85
Hey Mike
I remember the day you did your build...you were working with Ron Hein right?
How about an updated picture of Carly - maybe with some fine New Mexico scenery in the background?
So does your B85 run on E85? Heard you can get a power boost from it. (As if 638 HP isn't enough).

I actually run ethanol free premium, I have heard of various horror stories with ethanol in these engines, intakes, gas tanks, etc., so have gone cold turkey on the junk. It runs great too.

She'll be coming around the mountain...
Here she is eagle eye, with our 13,000' mountain range behind her. I have been using her mostly as a long distance road tour vehicle, been on an NCRS road tour to Hampton, Va. last summer, and running the Santa Fe 500 and Texas 1000 with her the next two months. She is very good at chasing down various Porsche Turbos and Ferrari California's on the twisty high mountain roads around here.

Thanks for the update on Carly. She's looking mighty fine - and sounds like she's living the ZR1 dream. Lotsa garage queens would love those twisty mountain roads.
Gotta be for fun for you too!
