My car will only turn traction control on and off, it no longer is giving the competitive mode option, just started that out of the blue, anyone else over see this?

with allanlaw - he knows lots of stuff!!!
The Active Handling system and the sensors and TPMS typically do not set any codes that will turn on the CEL or SES light.
Those systems are not part of the OBD II system of codes.
You will be alerted to problems with those systems just as you were - with messages in the DIC.
The sensors and TPMS are a great system on our car. You don't get handling feedback when a runflat loses pressure, like you would with a regular soft sidewall tire. The TPMS is there to alert you and protect you when a tire goes flat. It also goes into a safe mode if the TPMS malfunctions because it knows it can't tell if a tire is flat or not - so it won't let you go into into Comp mode or turn AH off completely.
Get your sensors programmed and you'll be back in business!!

ok guys so i know this is an old thread that i started a while back, im having some issues still.
im running hoosier r6's on the stock wheels with no SENSORS, ok so from what i understand is that if there is no sensors the COMP mode will not work.
so i was at a HPDE this weekend, car would not go into comp mode which was expected, so i took some warn up laps to get the tires warm, then i started to go with traction control ON. tight corners and sweeping turns TC was kicking in along with active handling, i did a few laps like this and my brakes were smoking hot!.. so i let the brakes cool for about 20 min. i went back out, this time turning TC OFF, same thing! active handling still engaging! with the TC in "off" mode. this time i lost pedal do to extreme heat.
after tons of reading it is said that with TC off, active handling should also be disabled.. in my case this is not correct.
what could be wrong????
any help would be greatly appreciated!
thank you.

When you start up the car the default is that TC and AH are on.
With no sensors you can turn TC on/off, but you won't be able to put the AH into Comp or turn it off completely. AH will remain full on.
Also, I believe that as you seem to have found out, the AH may even be much more sensitive and intrusive when you have a sensor problem - it's trying to protect you when you drive aggressively when it thinks you may have lost pressure in a tire.
I run sensors in my track tires to avoid the problem.
I've tried running a session with a sensor problem and had a bad experience like you. AH was putting on individual brakes and jerking the car around, and it also was pulling power when I tried to accelerate out of turns - the throttle just wouldn't respond at all until I got the car going straight and AH didn't sense any turning motion.
Different model years seem to have different tolerances for running without sensors, but the earlier cars may not like it as much. Some owners say they have found ways to work around the issue, but on my '06 Z06 the easiest way for me is to run sensors in my track wheels/tires.

great info bob, thank you. it is quite frustrating when AH is coming on in every corner and your lap times are coming in 10-15 seconds higher than your used to!.
looks like i will be buying sensors! thanks again.

Do you have a track only car?
Tire pressure sensors and the TPMS are federally mandated systems like airbags and seatbelts, so the system can't be removed in a street driven car.
Take a look at this thread (scroll down to posts by GTPprix):

If your car is only driven on the track then Chris can solve your problem!!

No TPMS here and I found a work-around that works for me 100% of the time.
This has worked for me 100% of the time everytime for the past 1.5yrs. Car is a 2006.
- Sit in car
- Do not depress clutch
- Press Start
- Wait for Corvette logo to begin scrolling (about halfway most of the time)
- Press OFF
- Depress clutch
- Press Start
- Press TC button to set car in Comp Mode or even turn off all TC/AH
This has worked for me 100% of the time everytime for the past 1.5yrs. Car is a 2006.

My Z06 now has tire monitors in the track tires but is still not completely without glitches. The rears are 18" and I'm assuming that this is the problem.
Occassionally at startup I can't get into comp. mode except by shutting off and restarting the engine. Other times it will go into that damned "Reduced Power" mode at startup and i have to disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes to clear it. Sometimes it will not go into Comp. mode untill I drive a couple hundred yards, *oh and I can't drive at all with traction control on (which is the default mode) at over 40 or 50 mph. Ain't those tire monitors great?

Get a set of TPMS transmitters for your wheels--this would take care of it.
That said, to get around having to do it for your tires now, find someone with a TPMS learning tool at the track; Park between 2 other vettes with TPMS; set your car to learning mode, and use their tires to train your car. You will then be able to turn off traction control for about 2.5 sessions for HPDE, and you should be good all day for autocross.
I wish there was a way to turn TPMS off completely, but there isn't on these cars.
