I can read and appreciate Ranger's explanation, however power is power, and MPH is power.
128 vs. 131.

It will be hard to iget a more experienced driver in a C-6 to drive both cars in the same day at the same track.
I was just expecting a greater difference in the mph department. However I must admit I've nver seen a stock z06 trap over 123 mph at my local track.

Not putting dn. the Zr-1 at all, just putting into perspective how amazing Ranger's times are on a stock Z06.

Ranger's right, people either read and don't comprehend OR dont read at all.... Let's see if any of these could have effected trap speed.....

A. Rangers run in the stock zo6 was at 0 DA, the Zr1's was over 600+ DA

B. Ranger had over 50 passes in the Zo6, only 8 in the ZR1

C. Was launching soft as not to break the Zr1 owners car, dropping the hammer on his own for the best possible time and launch

Dont you think this would effect the trap speed???? Hmmmmmmm

D. The ZR1 was heat soaked and never allowed a "cool" run.

E. Track conditions.

A and D would affect traps, B,C, and E would affect ET

My experience through 700 passes in Z06s is that trap speeds are best when:

Actual rwhp is highest. Weather and "engine" temp correlated

Traction achieved is best. Track surface prep and driver technique correlated.

Shift points are correct. All about the driver leveraging available rwhp.

Shift speeds are fast. Maximum time spent with the clutch out under acceleration. Again, that's all about the driver.

Not surprisingly, ETs tend to be affected by the same variables.

ET is also affected by quality of the launch and minimized duration to WOT.

My experience in 17yrs and 12 different cars at the track is that if the driver bogs too much both mph and ET are affected. If the car spins during launch and then hooks for the rest of the track, the mph will be increased while the ET will be decreased. This is a result of rpm (engine power band) and moment being applied earlier in the course of the run, where normally it requires more distance to reach the same point of momentum/acceleration.

Watching 2 automatic cars at the track with equal power will show these points more clearly.

In a manual car, as long as the driver has reasonable skill in driving and shifting, there is not much to gain in mph once the car is moving; it’s power dependent at that point. The driver would have to adversely drop momentum by missing a shift, hitting the rev-limiter, or by shifting way too early in the engines rpm/power band in order to significantly affect mph.

Obviously both mph and ET will be better when power is at its peak. However, mph is more of a constant at any given power level, ET requires driver finesse.

One of the advantages of a 700-pass drag log, loaded and shredded, is that variable are discernible. And some of them are counter-intuitive.

Very true, the less known about the factors the more counter-intuitive the result can seem. However, the results are reproducible and require more data than a typical log can provide. Same holds true for tuning, if someone decides they want to learn how to tune their car.

Other than 'just wanting to know' or 'trying to set a OEM tire record', it 'seems to me' drag racing any 12-11-10 (or less) second car on the OEM street tires is a measure in frustration. Especially 2WD. I mean really, how many cars at these 1/4 mile tracks that run sub 12's at 125+ MPH (or less) use OEM street tires? I suspect VERY few. It's like making Michael Jordan wear dress shoes on the B-Ball court. If you want to see which car is KING at the drag strip, just slap some stickies on the car and have at it.... Because that's the way most people are going to run them that frequent the 1/4 track.

As for seeing which car accelerates faster in everyday life or on a road course, I say line 'em up in a safe environment and run 'em from a slow roll on stock rubber. Because on a road course you usually don't start from a stop (if ever), and you rarely do on the street when hammering the throttle. Some of the airstrip events would be perfect for this kind of test. After many runs, it would become apparent which car 'pulls' on the other.

I've been away, but I REALLY can't believe there is still a debate in this thread!!!!

In due time, the ZR-1's #'s will be where many of us KNOW they can and should be. Then, many posts in this thread will seem illogical & silly, unfortunately....

Update: On October 12th, Z06Jeff, racerns, and Ranger returned to MIR for the second session of passes in Jeff's 2009 ZR1. The report by racerns and videos of the record passes are located here.
