Default Does anyone know how much the C6 Z06 engine cradle weigh?

Does any know how much the C6 Z06 engine cradle weighs? or the C6 non Z06 engine cradle. Could you please tell me. I'm trying to compare. Thanks

This is from the FAQ section. This discussion is about a probable magnesium rear crossmember---but they refer to the weight savings of the magnesium front crossmember (12.1 lbs):

"That rear crossmember is likely to be worth nearly the same mass savings as the front (5.5 kg = 12.1 lbs). The front crossmember/engine cradle is the first production part from the USCAR team (fast-tracked)."

I might be wrong but I was under the impression that all C6's had magnesium engine cradles. Sorry I don't know the weight.

GM's site says my ship weight for that part is 10.79 lbs.

My front cross member was cast in a helium rich environment. so it actually floats..

Nice work with the 12.1 pounds, sure beats my GTO's 52 Pounder :-(

Magnesium engine cradle is unique to the ZO6 and the ZR1.

I just looked it up, you are correct. Here is what I found.


"Compared to its aluminium predecessor, the 10.85-kilogram magnesium engine cradle provides mass savings of 30 to 35 percent."

That's roughly 24 lbs. so I guess the aluminum one was 36 lbs.
