Has any Z06 owner...upgraded to the ZR1 brakes?
Has any C6-Z06 owner... upgraded their Z06 to the C6-ZR1 rotors, calipers and pads?
I realize this conversion would be absolute TOP SHELF in cost, I am just curious if anyone here at CF has undertaken this project, and the cost.

I have had many interests in this, but at $8,000 or $9,000 I haven't had any trigger pullers yet.

Thank you Gene for the response!
At $8000 to $9000 ....that is a big pill to swallow for "brakes".... but ...aren't these brakes almost a lifetime brake system? ...as in ... the average Z06 owner will most likely not wear these brakes out for a good LONG time? If this is the case, it's like spending a lot of cash now on brakes to save money over the lifetime of your car versus, spend smaller amounts of cash periodically over the same time period but in the end you would have spent the same amount on "brakes." Does that sound accurate?

the average z driver would not spend 8 to 9 k doing brake jobs [ with factory brakes ] over the life of the car unless they were doing lots of track days...

Burning Brakes
There are lots of Z owners out there who have spent $4-6k and sometimes more to step-up to aftermarket big brakes to track their car. I am amongst that group but I would not spend $8-9k for carbon ceramic brakes to track - they will wear out and they will need replaced. Most Porsche Cup car guys are running steel rotors instead of the PCCB available and the GT3 guys who track are skipping the PCCB and going steel.
You have to have serious deep pockets to track carbon ceramic brakes.
If a guy wanted the ultimate street brakes and didn't track his car - then they could possibly be a lifetime brake.

How much abuse can these ZR1 brakes truly take? Obviously the cost makes it hard to step up but what is the average life of this set up on a primarily driven street car? Does anybody know?

If you actually need the performance, save your money and just buy a set of Brembos GTs (or GTRs), Stoptechs, or maybe AP brakes. Spend less, get more, and also you don't have to upgrade to those ridiculous 19" rims. If you're only going to drive on the street, keep your stock brakes, unless you just don't care about your money.

Member "Gary_C" from Brembo North America definitively says they will NOT work on a Z06.

He also says using the ZR1 caliper with iron rotors will NOT work

It depends on the requirement.
If ZR1's CCCB rotors weight much lighter than stock or upgrade rotors(1/3-1/2 decrease),
also "much" longer durability(4-5 times over),it would worth.
But if not....it "may" not worth to swap.
However,depend on Z06's available choices,
ZR1's CCCB system is a valuable&hi-end stuff still.

If so, I would be interested in this for the lightweight aspect of the system.

BUT, I'm sure it can be done...
Whats the goal here? Why not just spend less money for a "stronger" braking system.
I run the Stoptechs on my C6Z. My stopping power is absurd compared to stock.
PM me if you want pricing on Brembo or Stoptech BBKs. They are the best bang for the buck.

I could care less about performance. Weight loss is the primary goal.
We are headed for a street machine that is 2850 lbs. with 713 HP, or a power to weight ratio of 3.99lbs/hp. This with a naturally aspirated alky burning street machine that we use to pick up groceries. Smooth idle and fuel that costs 2.39/gallon for 105 Octane to feed the 13:1 CR beast.
I have no interest in heavy stuff. I know the aluminum hats reduce the weight, but I am more interested in overall power/weight ratios even if the stopping power is the same as stock.
The stock Z06 is at 6.25 lbs/HP.

for a street car.... Do you really need more brake than a Z06 set up.
My 09 Z stops just fine with what I've got. For $8000 and change, I'ed put it in the motor. Go real fast and just give yourself enough room to stop.

What steps did you choose to get to 2850lbs? The aftermarket BBK's still offer un-sprung / actual weight reduction.
