Problem with Cooling System.. Fans not coming on...
I called my local dealer and the first appointment is next week so I am trying to tackle this myself.
While driving on the highway I noticed my temps creeping higher and higher. I pulled off the first exit and parked. I let the car run and noticed the temp was still rising to 230+. I opened the hood and noticed the coolant fans were not spinning.
I shut the car off waited a few minutes and restarted... Same deal, no fans.
I had a small crescent wrench so I decided to disconnect the battery. I waited about 10 minutes and reconnected. I started the car and everything was back to normal. Fans were back on !
I then drove the car home, shut it off and restarted and same problem, no fans.
If I disconnect/reconnect the battery for 10 minutes I have fully working fans for 1 engine start only. Any restarts will have no fan operation until a battery disconnect.
Anyone come across a similar problem?

Check your 2 pin connector
There is a high rate of failures and not always 100% catastrophic. In other words, some times there is a connection, other times it is a complete disconnect. You can check it using an amp meter on the north and south side of the connector when it is NOT working.

Fan Relay?
"If" there is a relay that turns the fan on and off, it could be bad. My truck had a similar problem, being intermittent. New relay and all is well.
The best, 2k
There is a "Fan Control Module" mounted on lower passenger side of the fan shroud.

I am speaking of the connector north of or closer to the firewall. It is approximately 1"-1.25" cubed - two lines in, two lines out.

Thanks for all the responses.......
Checked all that.
No obstruction. No CEL. It is definitely electrical.
Swapped fan fuse and relay from my friends car. No change.
I can duplicate it consistently. If I disconnect/reconnect the battery for 10 minutes the fans come on when the coolant gets up to temp. As long as I do not shut the car off the fans will remain working as normal, cycling in speed based on temp.
If I shut the car off and restart the fans no longer come on unless I disconnect and reconnect the battery.
It's a vicious cycle

Mine also had this problem. Actually started to melt the middle wire in the module under the radiator. I bypassed it all together and hooked it up to a circuit to where it comes on when the car is turned on. I also had a switch added under the hood so I can have the acc on and be able to turn the fan off.
Anyone that is interested I will post some pics.

Interesting fix... Were you out of warranty when you had the fan problem?
My car is only 9 months old. I just can't get an appointment with my local GM dealer until next week and I want to drive the car this weekend. That is why I am trying to troubleshoot it myself.

We have found out that most tuners increase the rate of the fans to 90 from the get go. this keeps the fan on the whole time which in turn burns up the relay. This has been the only fault with the fans. Change the relay to a better one and you will be ok.

where is the relay located on the c6z?? Or is this for the c5's???
I know where the fan control module is.

I had my actual fan connector on the harness melt. PITA to fix. Need to find a better solution than just the relay or you'll melt the connector. Run time is an issue as well.
