The new Dex VI fluid is the replacement for Dex III in all applications EXCEPT manual tramsmissions and transfer cases. Even though the sticker on the trans says Dex III, if you put the newer fluid (which nearly everyone is using now) it can damage the trans. There is bulletins out from GM stating NOT to use Dex VI in ANY manual trans that originally called for ATF
The new fluid to use in the manual trans cars (including all Corvettes '97-present) is part # 88861800

Corvettes of Houston does my tranny fluid every other oil change... I always have them add in a bottle of the "marvel mystery oil" ... since i started doing that the 1/2 shifts have never been smoother...

This sure seems an overkill. Waste of money and more crap to the environment! Just don't get it especially if the fluid is good for 100,000 miles as per the maintenance schedule.

Why can't they decide on a simple thing like which is the correct fluid to use?
Stamp on the side of the Gear Bag says Dex III
Owner's manual says Dex III
Service Manual says Dex VI
RichieRichZ06 says Dex VI may cause damage, and to use 888861800
For now I am going to drain out whatever flavor of the day is in there and replace it with what Rich is suggesting .. The GM Manual Tranny fluid 88861800

I did not get 3.5 quarts in mine before it started to dribble out . More like 3.2 quarts . My back end may have been a bit higher than the front, however.

I have a RPM L-5 built TR6060, was going to put the latest GM fluid in it and was told my RPM not to, that I should use Royal Purple SynchroMesh instead. Seems to me these guys are the ones who would/should know.
Cheers, Paul.
