Default Tire pressure sensor question

I have custom wheels on my Z and the tire pressure sensors are banded to the front wheels.

I had to have one replaced and the tire shop cut the valve stem portion of the sensor off because the sensor wouldn't fit flush on the hub of the wheel. Now they can't get the sensor to pick up with the scan tool.

Will cutting the valve stem portion off ruin the sensor?

I really don't know but it's possible that the stem is used as the antenna for the thing...

Try aiming the TPMS tool through the rubber sidewall at various places on the tire. (The RF will not go through the alum well.)

If you break it down again, mark the spot where it is located. When they are in the original hole it is visable, but with it is banded on the inside it is pretty hard to figure out where it is.

I have heard that the valve stem is the antenna but I am not so sure.
Maybe? PM BeZ06, he is the resident expert on them.

YES, I was told that the valve stem is the antenna portion of the TPS. I had aftermarket caps on mine once and they couldn't get the sensors to pick up the tool until they removed the caps. Sounded real strange to me.

Looks like the stem is the antenna. Wonderful! The tire shop owes me a $78 sensor
