[ZR1] Wheel balance

Wheel balance
I got my 2010 ZR1 about two weeks ago and had it in the dealership twice for balance. They said they replaced one tire last trip, but still has vibration after 70mph. Anyone else have this problem?

Mine is at the Dealership right now for similar issue.
They rebalanced the left front and waiting for a new tire/wheel for the right side. Was told that there is a TSB out on this I would like to read but have not found any info on it yet.

Yeah, mine vibrates at about 75-80. Feels like it's coming from the right front. Pretty minor, and goes away at, um, higher speeds. I wonder if it's something harmonic in the suspension rather than a tire balance? It's not something I want to bring it to the dealer for (actually, it'd have to be pretty catastrophic to force me to take it there), but was thinking about taking the tires off in my garage and carting them over to a local tire shop I trust for a balance check.
Please let us know if you're able to fix the vibration.
Deb, if you're able to find out anything about a TSB, would sure like to see it.

My '10 does it at 75-80 too. Inconvieent on the intersate at 80mph, but normal...I guess.
Dealer showed me the TSB, but I dont have a copy. After they remounted the wheels on the spindles with no change in the wheel weights, it seemed to have reduced the vibration slightly, but its still there.

Find a tire shop with a Hunter Road Force Balancer and make sure they know who to use it, let them balance with that and your issues will be gone. Had issues at higher speeds with my large Escalade wheels, not anymore.

Here's a fairly new bulletin on tire vibration.
#PIC5202A: Tire Vibration At speeds Above 70 MPH - (Jun 18, 2010)
Subject: Tire Vibration at Speeds Above 70 MPH
Models: 2009 - 2011 Chevrolet Corvette
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This PI was superseded to update admin details. Please discard PIC5202.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers may note a slight vibration in the steering wheel at 72-78 mph. The tires are known to flat spot when parked and this condition may be present until the tires warm up. This condition should clear after 30 minutes of driving.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Drive the car for 30 minutes prior to beginning diagnosis. Check tires for force variation to determine which tire(s) may be contributing to the vibration; 15 lbs is considered acceptable. Rotating tires on the rim, sometimes called match mounting, to get force variation below 12 lbs is helpful.
Rotate the tire/wheel assembly on the hub, one lug at a time and test drive. There can be a stack up of tolerance between the lug nuts and the lugs on the front hub which can contribute to this condition.
If after performing the procedures above, a slight vibration still exists; this is considered a normal characteristic of the vehicle.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

I had a small concern about the same thing on my 09. There is a earlier post about ROAD FORCE BALANCING. Definately, the only way to go. Spend the few extra bucks. It solved all my concerns.

my solution
On my Z06 I had a very similar issue at mid 70's. The solution that worked for me was as follows:
Make sure the placement of the line of weights occurs near to the wheel spokes, i.e. placed towards the outside of the car instead of placed towards the inside of the car.
This simple fix worked instantly so maybe it is easier for some to first just rebalance and reapply the weights as I suggest rather than the other methods.
Oh, and I have had her up to 180 with no problem.
Legally, of course :-)
Oh, and I drive with new Michelin PS2 ZP's FYI.

My 2009 has this problem.
Before heading out on a 2,700 mile road trip in April I took it to the dealer. They said they balanced the wheels, but I drove the whole trip with it vibrating at that 75-80 mph range. I just tried to avoid that speed.
I drive it daily, but mostly local driving that doesn't get into that area of speed.
I plan to take the wheels off and take them to my local tire shop to get a proper balance.
There may be some dealers out there that are good at balancing and alignments, but in general dealerships are not good at those jobs.

I had the same shake on my 09 Z06. I figured it was because it sat on the showroom for a year. I replaced both front F1 tires ( out of pocket ) and that fixed the issue.
The ZR1 I test drove, did the same thing. I even made fun of it on the test drive with the salesperson. I bought a different car, and mine is pretty good. If I take both hands off, I can watch the wheel jitter, but cant feel it with my hands on the wheel.

Update:
Wish these posts would have been up earlier. The wheel/tire replacement did not resolve the issue and the car is sitting at the Dealership waiting for a response from GM.
They said it is close but not perfect as the Bulletin states should be normal. They want it perfect.
