Yes, that is correct. The ZR1 and Z06 both now use the same filter, the UPF48R. I sell them if anyone is interested.

Due to various changes to my Z, I have had to change my oil 3 times in the last 15 months, only 300 miles used in that time frame, and used the ZR-1 oil filter and Royal Purple oil each time. If it is good enough for the ZR-1 it's good enough for my "paltry" Z06.

Does the ZR oil filter fit all years of C6 Z-06s? If so, wouldn't it make sense to use them? I'm trying to think of downsides (assuming they fit correctly), and can't come up with any.

The filter element on the inside of the pf and upf are the exact same. It is the outside can that is thicker on the upf. I posted a quote from GM on the differences last year. Search

GM Powertrain has released a new oil filter for the 2009 Corvette. The new design UPF48R oil filter will be used on the following applications:
- LS7 7.0L -- Z06
- LS9 6.2L -- ZR1
With the addition of piston oil cooling nozzles and other unique lubrication system requirements, a new design dual-rotor oil pump is required for the LS9 application. The new design oil pump produces greater volume and higher system oil pressure. To meet those requirements, a new oil filter with higher burst strength is required.
The Ultraguard™ Gold UPF48R filter (U for Ultra and R for Racing) is black in color, has a thicker exterior shell, and can be identified as p/n 12626224
TIP: The internal components are the same in both the UPF48R and PF48 oil filters.
The UPF48R can be used in applications where the PF48 is specified.
TIP: The UPF48R is required for LS9 applications and is also used for the LS7 application as both engines are built at GM's Performance Build Center.

I guess I don't understand why a Delco Gold filter (UPF48R) would have the same filtering media as the standard filter (PF48). That was not the case for the UPF44 Gold filter. It had superior media to the standard PF44 & 46 filters as I recall. If the UPF48R has the same filtering media as the PF48, then it's a waste of $$$ to put it on a LS7 since it does not require the thicker filter shell.

The odd thing to all this to me is that the LS7 seems to produce higher oil pressure numbers than the LS9. Yet the intro of the new filter is supposedly linked to the LS9 due to oil pressure???

I use both the Mobil1 and the K&N oil filters on my 2009 Z06(that originally came from the factory with a PF48 filter). I believe that both the Mobil1 and the K&N have superior synthetic filtering media that the UPF48R does not have, along with the ticker shell and end plate that the UPF48R has.
I've only had one bad oil filter experience, and it was a AC Delco on my C5. If I wasn't using the Mobil1 and the K&N on my Z06, I would use the WIX oil filter(I use WIX on my 56 and 64 Vettes and my Mercedes).
