I just did the same last weekend with my CTS-V...I lost my engine though. What a PITA to rachet up a 4300lb car.
MY side fender folded all the way off to the side. I was able to open my door. I see your u-haul fender was still pretty high so you could not open your door all the way.
Maybe the chain was shorter or ???
Yep I used my floor jack inplace of the factory jack to tilt the trailer up to help the angle as well. It helps a lot.
I trailered for 2.5 hours. Drove really smooth.
Glad it worked well for you.

If you really want your baby to stay clean, some places also rent enclosed car-hauling trailers, or maybe you can borrow one from a buddy who is into racing.

Called a U-Haul service center today because I was worried about width after reading this and a few other threads. One of the other threads suggested requesting a "ATW" model. So I called to inquire. When I asked about a ATW model there was no response. He said prefix AT indicates it ws a auto transport but did not show anything W. He did however tell me that there was not 2 but actually 3 models. Weight wise all of them will handle a Vette no problem. The smallest one can take a Base Vette no problem. I think the middle one can do a stock Z06, ZR1 or GS no problem. Somthing modded with spacers and really fat skins might require the largest one. So know your width before you book the rental.

Thanks for the input just made my mind up I'm going to have a hauler take mine home or I'll buy my own trailer not sure which. I have a truck with a towing package and would easily handle towing a vette and a trailer of my own...

The heaviest duty U-Haul auto transport is way wide enough for any Z and has surge brakes. My truck has the heavy duty trailering package with the heavy duty light/power plug in the bumper. All I need is the correct size ball (short money), The round>flat light adapter ($10.00 from Autozone) and wood to extend the ramps. So If I go there anyway and buy it, I'll save hundreds on transportation and it'll be in my yard the same day. I can do it my self for under $200.00 vs 5-6 hundred and wait more then a week or two. I have no use for having my own trailer.

You have to be smarter than uhaul to get what you want. To reserve an ATW, go online to uhaul's website. tell the website that you are towing with a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Hd with a 10000 pound hitch. Also tell it that you are towing a 1998 Silverado 2 door 6 ft bed 2wd truck. That will reserve the correct trailer to fit a z06.
You will be able to correct what you are towing and what you are towing with when you pick up the trailer.
A uhaul store manager helped figure this out and it has served me well, ymmv

Mine is a 1/2 ton, 5.3L with the factory tow package. Towed my Z06 just fine.

Need somebody to hold your hand while you try to back up a rollerskate 10 feet in a straight line??? WIMP Try backing out onto a street with a 48 foot box trailer blind side with no help. Truck drivers do it better

As promised, this is what I had to do in order to load and unload the Z using a U-Haul trailer. I heard mixed reviews (reference here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...-their-zs.html), but overall my experience was positive once I made proper preparations.
Tools and supplies needed:
Four 2x10x8 boards (cut 3 feet off two of them)
Skillsaw
Pair of cargo straps
Hammer
Pry bar
Metric Socket Set
Metric Box/Open Wrench Set
Pair of Strong Construction Bricks (leftover from my home construction - optional)
A dozen or so 16P Nails (to secure the boards together)
Excuse the mediocre photos. I just had a cheap point and shoot with me.
Arrival at Ragin' Racin'
Good Trailer Fit with 345 Nitto Invos
Removed the Front Lips on the Trailer
Nose Now Clears Once Lips Removed
Raise the Trailer to Decrease Angle of Ramps
(With thanks to Randy for this little bit of insight - probably didn't need the bricks after this step)
Boards "Three Thick and a Brick" to Extend Ramps

Around here, ATW's are a rarity without a reservation, so waiting until you show up at the Uhaul dealer to try to get the correct car hauler my leave you empty handed.

Uhaul CAN give you an incorrect trailer for the Z06. I told them I was towing a mazda miata and they gave me a car transporter in which the wheels of the Z06 were too wide. I had to then trade up to the one that is shown in the first post.
The previous one I had before was orange and probably made in 1911.
second, I loaded up the Z06 without the use of blocks of wood. I used the jack built into the trailer to angle the back end of the trailer so that it was more level and wasn't as much of an angle. I also found a slight incline to make it easier.
in terms of the lip I did not put the car past the rails, my car sits about 8 inches further back than the others did, I pulled the ebrake, strapped the front wheels down and put her in gear. I made the 1.5 hour trip back just dandy.
