Default Muffler mod on ZR1 Exhaust? Has anyone tried it.

I don't think this topic has been covered before, and I have been wondering so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Has anyone tried the Muffler Mod on a ZR1 exhaust yet?

Would it be pointless becaust it would have the same sound as a Muffler Modded stock z06 exhaust?

From what I have read and gathered, the z06 and Zr1 exhausts sound different stock for stock. The zr1 exhaust is slightly louder ,deeper and fuller sounding. The modded stock exhausts often have the complaint of too raspy sounding to *tin can sounding*. I wonder with the slightly larger pipes of the zr1 exhaust and the slight differences would deliver a sound a little deeper and fuller sound that the modded stock exhaust lacks.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I haven't seen the zr1 muffler mod done before with the Zr1 exhausts on our z06s.

Thanks

Pipes are the same size on a ZR1. From what I understand, to mod is already done to ZR1 muffler from the factory

I believe the ZR1 muffler is the same diameter as the Z, except the internal perforated pipe in the Z was replaced with a solid pipe in the
ZR1 muffler.

We actually have lots of pictures of the inside of the Walker manufactured Z06 muffler.
So far, I have not seen the internals of a ZR1 muffler. We do know it sounds different, so you would assume it is designed different. The problem is they are so expensive most folks don't want to cut them up.

Exactly. I am going to do the mod because I have LT headers, an xpipe and mild2wild... after the muffler mod I should sound awesome it's fairly simple as far as the pipes go, the concept is pretty simple. and dayum does it sound good!

I think the muffler mod on Z06 mufflers gets you close to what a ZR1 muffler is. the pipe on the inside of the muffler is perforated on the z06 and solid on the zr1 muffler. - muffler mod on z06 muffler clamps or welds a piece of pliable metal around the perforated tube.

When the mod sounds extra tinny is when the fiberglass packing is pulled out and left out. after the mod to the perforated tube, you want to make sure the packing is carefully placed back inside the muffler before sealing the muffler case up.

No, I have not seen the inside of the Zr1 muffler.

I have heard others make statements that the inside pipe in the muffler on the Zr1 is not perforated and muffler mod gets z06 muffler close to
zr1

Thought so.

Has anyone actually seen the inside of one? Any pics? Is it really solid pipe, and are there any other design differences?

The muffler mod on the Z06 cans will get you fairly close to the sound of the stock ZR1 cans, but not quite. The ZR1 is a totally different sound and differs from the modded Z06 mufflers. I have ZR1 mufflers on mine and would never consider going to anything else. Is it exotic and raspy when open and whisper quiet when closed.

Plus when people say they sound different is that comparing the Z06 and ZR1 exhaust on the same car? Obviously a Z06 is gonna sound different than a ZR1 it has a completely different motor.

No, but had I known that everyone is so interested I would have opened mine up to see. I have been selling them often, but none of my customers want me to cut them open before they take them. Lol

I have the packing in my modified Z mufflers, but to my ear it definitely has the tin can sound. ZR1s are in my future...

ZR1 has an X-pipe and that will also change the sound sightly.

An aggressive cam and long tubes make 'em even sweeter sounding.

How do the ZR1 mufflers compare (sound wise) with BB Fusions?

I am not a fan of the fusions. They sound too deep and not throaty enough IMO. I like the ZR1's the best out of all the dozens of exhaust combos that I have heard.
