Default Help me diagnose my muffler flap problem

My flaps are always in the open position.

Both actuators on the mufflers move freely.

Vacuum hoses are connected to each actuator.

I just checked vacuum at the rear of the car by connecting a vacuum gauge to the vacuum supply (fitting in below picture) and I'm getting 15 inches of vacuum with the car at idle

Based off the directions in this post I disconnected the solenoid but the valves still remain open

If the valves are open with the connector to the vacuum solenoid unplugged, but closed with the connector plugged in you have an issue with the signaling of the vacuum solenoid to open and close.

By default if there is no power to the solenoid the valves will remain open, not closed. If there is no power to the solenoid because the connecor is removed you should get full open. If you dont the solenoid is BAD.

Let us know what you find out.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should check next?

Have you checked the fuse?

Probably a user error.

Get a piece of Vacuum Tube, connect it to one of the actuator valves on the muffler and try to suck the actuator closed. If one of them doesn't close, that is your problem.

If you have 15 inches of vacuum and your actuators are working there should be no problems. Go back and check again. If it isn't the fuse, you have a line leak.

I can move my actuators by hand with no problem, nothing is binding.

I have 15 inches of vacuum up to the actuators so I don't think I have a vacuum leak. It's got to be an electrical issue?

Fuse is good. Perhaps the relay's bad?

Or, could something in the tune be set to keep the flaps open at all times?

If you have vacuum at the "T" to the actuators then the only thing it can be is one of the actuators or the short line to the actuator from the "T" is bad. Try hooking the main vacuum line before the "T" to each actuator individually. I'll bet that one doesn't work. You'll need to repair or replace the non-working actuator.

Do this. I had vaccum at my actuators, yet they were still not closing. It turned out the passenger side diaphram was ripped, therefore keeping the system open and not closing either valve(since they are T'ed into 1 line). I will still move easily as they are not frozen open. Very quick diagnosis.

Like I said in my earlier post, you need to try to suck each actuator closed using a piece of vacuum hose. This will tell you weather or not an actuator is bad.

I had to do this and one of my actuators was bad.
