I need to throw my car on a dyno soon...previous owner claimed 572rwhp. With the bullets on my car it seemed I had less torque down low. Who knows! I want to get the burns system for lightweight but I love my snap crackle pop

So the 2011 and later Z's have an identical X-pipe to ZR-1's, but not necessarily the same mufflers? And the dimensions are identical?

I know this thread was resurrected, but I just swapped out my 09 exhaust for the 2011 exhaust. It sounds much more exotic, and throaty.

Sort of - In 2011 they changed to an x-pipe and ZR1 style (similar to muffler mod) mufflers. Although the ZR1 and Z06 mufflers have different part numbers

In 2012 they added two additional cats so the crossover pipe is different in length.

It sounds much different with more decel burble and louder throughout the RPM range
So, to make my 2007 sound like a 2011, I should replace the H pipe with an X pipe and modify the bi-mode mufflers to have no perforations on the loud pipe and to have perforations on the quiet pipes?

Default Depends on the cats

Not sure.

I am not aware of the catalytic converter set up on the 2007.....

Or obtain a ZR-1 exhaust?

A fellow forum member bought ZR1 mufflers and 2011 mufflers for his 2009 Z06. He sold the ZR1 mufflers...

I'm pretty sure the sound is very similar.

So then they are not identical? Did he do a thread on it?

There were 904 Z06's made in 2011. Those mufflers are going to be hard to come by.

I opted to buy a set of 2011 Z06 mufflers rather than modify my 2007 Z06 mufflers. I will swap them after I complete my adjustable exhaust activation RPM project, hopefully before Carlisle (would it be a good idea to have it done there?), and will try to make a before/after video.

I had the 2011 mufflers installed during Corvettes at Carlisle today (just the mufflers; the H-pipe was not replaced with an X-pipe). Below is a video of sound clips I took before and after, inside and outside, on the same stretch of road, shifting well below redline but high enough to be representative. The difference is more subtle in the recording than it is in person, but this is the best I can manage with my Canon SX30. With the 2011 mufflers, the exhaust note has more tone, in a musical sort of way; it really sings. In open mode, the 2011 is considerably louder and, unlike the 2007, does exhibit drone above 2000 RPM. In quiet mode with the flaps held partially open by the same amount, the 2011 sounds much better than the 2007, so I changed my activation setting from 2000 RPM to 2500 RPM. I'm really pleased!

0:00 - 0:13 = 2007 mufflers with flaps open (outside)
0:14 - 0:27 = 2007 mufflers with flaps open (outside)
0:28 - 0:37 = 2007 mufflers with flaps open (outside)
0:38 - 0:50 = 2007 mufflers with flaps open (inside)
0:51 - 1:03 = 2011 mufflers with flaps closed until 2500 RPM (outside)
1:04 - 1:17 = 2011 mufflers with flaps open (outside)
1:18 - 1:36 = 2011 mufflers with flaps closed until 2500 RPM (inside)

1:32 = drone magically vanishes when flaps close (to partially open) despite same throttle input

I found a few 2.5" but no 3" X-pipe take-offs in Installation Alley, so I ordered an X-pipe section to convert my H pipe and will update the video when I have that installed unless it sounds just like this, in which case I may not bother:

Very cool. Can definitely hear the burble and pop on decel.

Let us know how the X-pipe mod works out.

I swapped out my 2009 H pipe and mufflers with the newer X pipe and mufflers.

Knowing how they sound now, I wish I would have kept the H pipe with the newer mufflers. I think it would sound much more aggressive.

Default 2011 is much different

If you do some searching on this subject you will find alot of posts related to it.

Here are the differences.

Please do not argue or dispute as please, please trust me.

It has been documented.

Just do the search.

2011 and newer X pipe

2011 was only year with only 2 cats

2011 has more HP and torque stock from factory than any other C6 Z06

2012 and 2013 have 4 cats

2011 sounds very much like the C6R with a very nice "burble" and popping on downshifts.

It sounds great.

Sorry if I made anyone mad.

You already stated that in post 40 of this very thread. Who is arguing or disputing anything?

Thanks for sharing your opinion based on first-hand experience! It sounds very, very good as currently configured with the 2011 mufflers and the 2007 H-pipe so I am admittedly on the fence about proceeding with the X-pipe conversion.

I should dyno my 2011. Everyone is always talking about how it pulls hard out of corners and such.

It's very loud once the baffles open up.

Your observation that modified early mufflers drone less than 2011 mufflers is interesting and unexpected considering none of the internal pipes are perforated to take advantage of the baffling (it could have more to do with the length of the internal piping, which may function as a partial-wavelength resonator). With the valves open, the drone seemed to me exactly the same below 2000 RPM after replacing unmodified 2007 mufflers with 2011 mufflers. I still have the 2007 H-pipe, so perhaps the X-pipe makes things worse in that regard. As I mentioned earlier, with the valves held open, the 2011 mufflers do exhibit drone above 2000 RPM where the unmodified 2007 mufflers did not at all, so certainly "more" by that definition. In closed mode with the valves held partially open to allow a bit of volume and tone, the 2011 mufflers sound to me significantly better than the 2007 mufflers; neither exhibit any drone whatsoever, and both sound better than either with the valves fully closed.

Hey man, when you are right you are right...I am with you on this and Hib Halverson proved it with the conversion he did on his 2012. Bottom line is 2011 exhaust is the best and adds more HP; undisputable.

It is interesting that the 06-10 mufflers are now implied as a restriction when before a noisier and presumably better flowing Borla or BB catback was considered as spending money for nothing more than more volume. Are these aftermarket catbacks now sources of more power if the x pipe is added? Hib's swap supports the 2011s will make 11 more hp than the 2012s but is there a similar swap documented for the pre 11 models? Otherwise it may only prove the 12-13 cars are 11hp weaker than all earlier years, or the 06-10s may be somewhere in between the 11s and the 12s. Also I don't know that Hib mentioned if he added the ZR1 air filter but I don't think so. That could then mean that the 2011 is a bit more than 11 hp stronger.

Its good that Hib used the factory x pipe and its got me looking at the Corsa x pipe but I'm not sure if their #14173 is equivalent to the 2011 item or not, in spite of the fact they list the part for 2006-2001 inclusive. Hopefully the information is out there already and I just have to dig it up.

I'd just like to point out that, while I like extra power as much as the next guy, this thread is titled, "Anyone heard the 2011 Z06 Exhaust?," not, "Anyone dyno'd the 2011 Z06 Exhaust?"

It arrived today and seems solid. Not bad for $30 shipped. A stainless version is available for another $10, but I figured it would be easier to weld the same material as the stock pipes.

But I am really enjoying how it sounds with the H-pipe and am concerned about Erick's comment regarding the X-pipe so may hold off for a while.

Robert is not kidding! The exhaust is much louder with the 2011 mufflers than it was with the 2007 mufflers.

I have not seen any threads discussing early mufflers with an X-pipe (I would like to hear that combo!) but suspect an H-pipe after two cats would make more power than an X-pipe after four cats.
