Excellent post and write up Counselor, about an excellent high performance super car, that is by far the best bang for buck ($) value out there in the super car market, and a DARN reliable one at that!

Great post ! To guys like me with "young 6K vettes", this is music to my ears. I haven't beaten too much on her yet, in part, because of all the negative posts about exhaust valves, oil problems, etc, etc. Good to hear the other side and keep em coming.

Ranger...do you use 3M type material over the vunerable areas of your 'Z? (refering to the area in (front) of rear wheels around the brake vents and front area to help prevent rock chipping and pitting? One of the names is "Cleartastic" clear protection film I think.....Tim

Had a couple club members use the 3M stuff, professionally applied. They were happy with it.

Lordy man, at what point (on or off the juice) do you find traction? I have similar mods/HP as you and have had NOS on some Z28's but traction is already a joke in 1st (rolling) or 2nd (1/2-3/4 throttle) so another 100 plus instant ponies sounds as ludicrous as it does addicting...

Saw this post and said "what the f*#k", so I got my 45 and shot my vette a few times, it still fires right up!!
Now I wish I had not done that as I have this annoying whistling noise at speed, off to the dealer for service. Guess mines not "bullet proof"

I have 40,000 miles on my 2008.
It's been back to the dealer twice.
1st time I got a check engine light. Turned out to be a blown skip shift resister (I added from the after market).
2nd time I got a check engine light. Turned out to be a bad RH cat.
No other issues.
It's a GREAT car !

I'm closer to stock and have been trouble free for quite a while now.
If done enough of this for a life time.

My 08 will be 3 years old in April and I have 68,000 miles on it. It goes to the track every month. It starts right up every morning when I drive it to work on the original battery. I still enjoy every minute I drive it wether on the track or daily driving. Not one mechanical issue !!!!

Well designed for sure
71K mi on a modded 09...508rwhp..26+ mpg highway fuel economy@ 80-90mph.
My car is a DD and has been more dependable, besides being much less costly than previous foreign "exotics"...a Ferrari 430 with paddle shift and a 911 turbo with "Tiptronic'
Of course, given the number of Z's sold since 2006, statistically a few will have serious mechanical issues...and of course we read about'em here on the Forum.
Glad to see a thread reflecting the overwhelming majority view!!
Take care all,
Regards

Drifting
I have had 6 of them as daily drivers from Nov of 2005 up until I started driving ZR1's and I have not had a bit of problem out of any of them. Many, many passes at the strip and a little road course here and there and still never an issue! They are well built cars and its funny how people hear of 1 in every couple thousand having an issue and then they say its a bad car. I would tend to belive that of the ones saying something happend to theirs I would venture to say that most of it is self induced......I saw one have a problem at summit point (Major driver error) He was downshifting and went to 1st instead of 3rd and boom......then back in the pits he was telling people that it must have had the common problem of dropping a valve

It is nice to hear from owners WITHOUT problems for a change. While it is only natural to post about problems, it is nice to remind others that these cars are pretty stout.
