[Z06] Z06's are bullet proof
#41
30k miles. Headgasket replaced, axle replaced, door fob module replaced, cats replaced, window trim replaced, flash update for cat issue.
Its a performace car and I fully expect some issues. I have owned other performace cars and none nearly as reliable as the Z. A few issues, so what. Considering what the car does vs. the very few issues I have had, I consider it pretty bullet proof. Lawn mowers and Honda cars are reliable because they make no power....easier to make something that is not stressed not break, isn't it

37,000 miles on mine and it's been a track and street warrior ( my son ) and other than normal maintenance and tires I haven't had any issues at all with the car. Still runs strong.
Cam and headers on it at 3K also.
GM hit one out of the ballpark with the Z06 IMO

Just for a change of pace from all the blew up my car, broke the diff. type posts.
My '07 has 34,000 miles and a few track days (gone through six sets of tires).
Number of dealer visits? One. That was for a new shifter due to original one having a buzzzzzzzz. Ok, I'm knocking on wood as I write this.
Normal maintenance and I've replaced brake pads and rotors a number of times.
Drive hundreds of miles to a track. Unload stuff. Run laps all day. Put stuff back in car. Drive home. Again, knocking on wood, but have done that 20+ times with only brakes and tires.

I got my 2006 Velocity Yellow Big Bird last April. I've put about 8K miles on it. A few long trips and around town jaunts when the weather cooperates. No track no racing (OK a littlle fast on the highways)
Except for the differential noise that I have to get fixed under my GMPP I have not had one single issue with this car.
To know what this car can do, how well behaved it is in normal driving and how it can go from track to Sunday School on the same weekend is a testament to the designers and builders at GM.
I'm sorry people have problems but its purely a mathematical thing. Despite the number of tests, to include xray and flourecent to find defects, some will get through. On this board we hear of the "many failures" because we are a small "sample". We also take our cars to the limits of their designs. Something has got to give.
Let me use an example from an RV Board I used to inhabit:
There always were threads about Michelin tires blowing out. If you listened to all the complaints, you would assume there was a problem with Michelin RV Tires. UNTIL you realized 90% of the RV tires out there are Michelins. Mathematically, the odds of an RV Having a Michelin tire blow out on them are pretty good. It does not mean Michelin makes a bad tire.

Glad to see a thread like this.
I had to replace a motor as a result of oiling issue but other than that the car has been awesome!!! GM replaced it on warranty and I put in the higher capacity resevoir and no problems since....... other than lots of rotors and pads and tires....... what we call consumables.......
Without question the best performing car I have ever owned....... and I'm old!!

Yup, 480 rwhp at Hitech and 470 rwhp at DRM. Stock tune and air intake. Has Corsa exhaust. And, you are right, should have knocked on wood harder.

This is for the old folks that remember the SS 66 396's when they first came out. I remember when I bought my new 66 L78 Chevelle I blew the motor the first month, took it back to the dealer and looked in the shop and there were 12 SS 396's sitting there with the hood on the roofs. I would like to see the #'s of 396 replaced under the new GM 5 year 50,000 mile warranty. If I'm not mistaken that was the first year for it. I also blew up a 69 L78 Nova which GM also replaced under warranty.
