It's in the DIY section at the top of the Z06 forum. Here's the link:

07 Z06, cam, lg headers xpipe and m2w. Is there any downside to muffler mod? I would like a little more sound but heard bb fusions have drone so this sounds like what I am looking for.

The regular muffler mod drones just as bad as the BB Fusions. I have had both. The best I have had and done is the 3" Muffler Mod. This is the best sounding system I have personally had. There is very minimal drone when open and zero drone when closed.

thanks for the info and link. I am not an experienced or skilled DIY person and I do not dislike my current setup so if the regular mod adds drone maybe I just need to stay put. I was thinking if I can pay a shop ~$200 for a louder sound with no downsides (drone) might as well do it. Another great reason I love this forum, tons of info and great people 👍

In open mode both fusions and stock mufflers drone--as does any other 'straight' through exhaust. In closed mode, the muffler mod does not drone--it is just like stock.

Default Muffler Mod

In my experience, the muffler mod is slightly louder than stock during normal (baffle closed) operation, and considerably louder (sounds great) during baffle open operation and during engine startup (when the baffle is open due to lack of engine vacuum for a few seconds). There is thankfully no drone with the baffle closed at highway speeds. After a couple of years one of my mufflers developed a crack in an internal baffle where the muffler tube passes through it. These cracks will make your Z06 sound like $hit, and can be very difficult to find. Once the crack is found and welded up, the good sound returns. Be sure and have more weld placed between the tube and the internal baffles so the cracks/resonance does not come back. Roger in Houston knows exactly how to fix this.

I am a big fan of the muffler mod sound on my Z06, which still has the OEM cast exhaust manifolds and cats. I have no doubt that it will sound louder and different on cars with tube headers and/or cats. I am put off by the "bark" that the exhaust makes on startup, where there is no engine vacuum to close the exhaust baffles. It is loud and will wake up anyone trying to sleep in the house. Small children cry, and it does not earn any points with those trying to sleep in. Roger and I tried to figure out how to keep the valves closed on a cold startup, but we were not been able to come up with a simple solution for this problem. There is a more complex and expensive solution for those willing to install a vacuum pump for this system.

With no cats my muffler mod does not drone at all in the closed position. Sounds down right brutal at wot.

A few exhaust shops mentioned the Chicago area in this thread from the Great Lakes sub-forum... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ust-shops.html
