Default Z06 Convertible or Targa???

Hello, I am new to the world of potential corvette owners and have a question that is likely stupid, so go easy on me. I would like a targa top vette (preferrably) or convertible, but want the 7.0 liter Z06 engine. I was told by the dealer that Z06's come only with a fixed roof for stability. Is this true? Are their any options?

True. The Z06 comes with aluminum-frame and fixed roof, for structural integrity & rigidity.

If you want a "removable" roof, you need to buy one of the models with the LS3 engine.

Or buy a Z06 and have the roof modified to be removable. I don't remember what the company is called, but there is an oufit that is doing targa top conversions. A few members here have done it, and the results have been positive,

You could buy a Grand Sport Vert and put an LS7 in it.

There is no stupid question. If you prefer a targa top your best option is a Grand Sport which also comes in a convertible, both models are 430 HP. If you want a ZO6, hard top is your only choice and comes with 505 HP. There is a big difference in performance, if you are new to the vette world you might want to test drive the Grand Sport and see if you are comfortable with the power. If you want the ride of your life test drive a ZO6 and wear a diaper.

cost is arouind 10K for the conversion and I believe it adds around 200 lbs to the car

Thanks so much for the replies. The idea of buying a Z06 and then getting a roof modification sounds interesting. Let me know if you can think of the name of the company.

The best solution is to buy a clone Z06 new which is a Grand Sports and add a supercharger, the LS3 motor is stronger than the 427 Z06 motor and it will make more power than a stock Z06.
The car will have the removeable roof, the wide body look alike of a Z06 and for less than the company is charging to remove your roof of a stock Z06 you can add a supercharger and have more ***** than a stock Z06.
Well this is just my opinion, but respect your wish and likeness.

Bigger *****, but smaller *****. If you want the full package, get the Z06.

Undoubtedly Caravaggio performs exceptionally fine work – convertible and targa-top conversions, though the brace somehow seems to have been of consideration/discouragement as cited in the following thread; Post 2…

Yet if you’re seriously considering such a conversion you may also want to review NVR2L8’s (forum member) informative write-up. The brace appears to be quite an effective component.

Thanks again for the options guys.

If you go the route of supercharging the LS3, what companies can do that? What are the approximate costs and what happens to the warranty?

Callaway...

21K++++++++....

Standard 3/36 warranty for the S/C packages but for "only" $2,900 additional bucks you can extend that to 5/100.

Here's their link.

At Callaway, we offer Powerfully Engineered packages for Corvettes and peerless support before, during, and after the sale.

As asked, what happens to your warranty? With Callaway, unlike any other option, your GM Powertrain Warranty remains in full effect and our Callaway 3/26 Powertrain warranty supplements the factory coverage for any issues related to the Powertrain - Again, this is peerless in the industry!
For customers who would like additional assurance, we offer our optional 5/100 coverage for the Powertain, matching the duration of the GM Powertrain Warranty in effect.

Here are some links about Callaway Corvettes - please let me know if I can help with any questions you may have
