Update May 10......

Talked with my service rep last night and he said they still have no parts and it is still on National Back order. I told him that I wanted him to get with his service manager and ask him he he would contact there GM service rep to find out that if they can't get a cam and lifters to see if they will get me a new crate motor. He told me he didn't think that they would do it but he would ask.

Hopefully I will know something more today..........

Why don't you go pick up your car and drive it till the parts come in?

Can you be sure to ask the dealer to save your old cam and lifters? You should take them home and take high res photos of any damage so we can document this issue for future use.

We went from "I dropped it off and noone knows, I will get back with you..."

to the above.

Are the lifters/cam the issue, or is the dealer replacing these items as part of the process of elimination?

What about all the bearings that may have been contaminated by the metalic contents from the valve train, filters dont remove everything

SEE AVATAR picture for lobe wear........
Was told that the cam was not "hardened" properly.

BTW, the car was not raced, tracked and had the oil/filter changed by dealer every 4-5K, or when DIC showed 30% oil life remaining.

Now at 31,000, no problems, and car runs and sounds quiet.
I noticed your avatar and I must say, those lobes look spectacular!

Now, about the cam... could be a lubrication problem...

Maybe GM should just install a complete new engine if they can't supply the parts to repair yours. I think 3 weeks is unacceptable and no parts in site??

Wow that sucks!

Hope you get your car back soon!

If there's an LS7 crate motor available, GM should send you that & at the very least the dealership can pull the parts you need & then send that crate motor back to GM & GM can wait for the replacement parts.

Update...... Talked with the dealer on Sat May 28 and the Cam arrived at the dealer on Friday afternoon.
Should be going in today.
I asked them to hang on to the old parts as I would like to take some pics. They said that they would......

I finally got my Z06 back yesterday!!

I don't know why it took so long for my dealer (Reliable Chevrolet in Springfield, MO) to get the parts from GM but at this point I really don't care!! Without going into all the details, Reliable Chevrolet took very good care of me and my car!!! I would highly recommend them for any Corvette service!!! .

Now what the actual problem was the rollers on 2 of lifters pitted severely. One of them was really bad and the other had just started. The really bad one damaged the one cam lobe. Here are some pics....

What kind of oil do you use?

Glad they got it fixed.

Cam lobes not properly hard chromed. Caused metal to grind off and pitted rollers. Sounds like we will have several more since these are done in a batch.

That looks like a lubrication issue, providing the rollers aren't from China.

Those rollers should be hardened. The cam looks like it took the abuse from the roller. For how long it anyone's guess.

Looking @ your bearing surfaces on the cam, I'd say the oil isn't holding up. What kind of oil temps are/were you seeing? Mobil 1 falls off quickly if the temp. soars. (300+)

Also, did you load the engine @ cold startup numerous times? You know, start it and rev it just to show your friends how good the pipes sound? (I've seen it done on bikes, that's why I ask...)

And some say an oil analysis is a waste of money.

An oil analysis would have caught this along time ago.
