I want to thank GM for making a transmission with basically no overdrive gears that has the potential of pulling with most anything in the world on the autobahn even into 6th gear. Almost all (if not all) of the Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo models top out in their highest gear and the reason for that is absolute performance and exploiting all of the gearing advantage possible.

I don't think there is a big problem now with GM offering 'standard' gear ratios for the '12 ZR1 and I like options, but I am quite happy with my 'performance' gear ratios' on my '10 ZR1, gas mileage be damned.

Default You guys don't think ahead!

The ZR1s current tranny is done at ~224mph with 750hp.
This ECO thing will have more head room!

I hope not. My headers tune 490rwhp Z06 ran the mile dead even with my Zr1. Why are they even doing this. Do any if us really car what mpg we get in our Zr1. I can just see the threads now of people bitching about getting the lesser performance Zr1s. Thread titles such as "anyone know how hard it is to swap out 5 th and 6 th gear?".

I've already stated: were I going for a new '12, I'd jump at this chance in a heartbeat. I enjoy the tight ratio transmission on the road course, and the taller 5th and 6th gear wouldn't affect me in the least there. The LS9's massive grunt would more than make up for it. And getting a couple of MPG out of the car while taking long trips is all the better, IMHO.

I never worry about resale on vehicles. I know I'm going to lose money when that time comes. And I'll guarantee you that there will be a negligible difference in resale values between the two transmission choices.

That puts the ME2 in a similar position to performance characteristics of the Z06 transmission, but with a more power. I think that puts the ME2 in a position to obtain top speed in 5th, theoretically maxed at 212. Of course not taking aero into account. There was a post a while back from someone who made nice calculations with aero into account. It would be interesting to plug in the new numbers for comparison.

Could there be a lower Gas Guzzler Tax because of this?

I believe GM stated as such, and was the deciding factor along with increasing stated MPG for the car.

Belay my last, 5th gear will be good for ~215mph as they're using the Grandsports MZ6 5th gear ratio...It won't be geared perfectly for the mile anymore, but I believe the grunt as stated previously will make up for trying to make a shift at ~180 with the MH3 tranny in a top speed run where you're going to drop acceleration from drag no matter how fast you are. Try it if you don't believe me or maybe someone will do a 0-200 mph comparison!

Other than including hills, dips, and corners, that is my idea of a real race

Default With the new for 2012 5th and 6th gear changes

I agree with PRE-ZO6,with the new ME2 0.71 5th gear, you should be able to get over 200mph quicker, with the MH3 you are going to have to shift at 180 plus and lose speed and rpm. Also if you bump up the hp.say to 750 hp.on the ZR1,you should be able to use the ME2s 0.50 6th.gear and possibly hit 230mph.SA.

2012 Gas Guzzler tax is $1,000.00 (code R8E) on my invoice. For the way I use the car I went with the standard trans.
