Best bet for the future is to keep the metal part of the key in a hidden area. The problem is there are not many to choose from since the body and frame are not magnetic. That key will open the trunk in emergencies.
Maybe tape it with duct tape somewhere or carry it in your pocket/wallet away from the FOB.

I agree to at least get a couple metal key's made up, and as suggested, maybe tape one on the car, even if you have to crawl somewhere dirty to get at it. I have several car's, with all the fob/car key being seperate from my daily house/office key's, so only carry what I need. My daily Pontiac only has the fob hanging from the dash ignition, with the house key's still in my pocket. My Vette fob also has the key on it, and rarely leave's my pocket when using that car.

May be usefull
I know it's a old tread but I am not so sure about the locksmith as these cars have the mecanism on the body, not in the door so if it was my car, I would definitely jack and secure the car and power up the system true te starter connector, option 2 is go to dealer with identification and order a new key, they can cut it with the code in there system using the serial number.

That's true if you have the key, the op had lost the key and the battery was dead, It's a good thing to recall about these door release as many forgot and crawled to reach the other relese next to the seat.

Go to a nearby dealer and get a key made for under $60. You will need your photo ID and the VIN. 08 and up has the key in the fob, 06 and 07 (my year) has a separate key that does not fit in the FOB.
