Default Just Curious..........

As I'm educating myself on these beautiful machines, I'm curious as to why the Z06 is not available with the targa roof? Is it a structural thing due to hp? As I move towards my first corvette purchase after being a Saleen and Shelby owner - I find myself wanting that combination. Probably a stupid question, but as stated - I'm curious.

A removable top would be detrimental to the structural integrity of the high performance Z06.

The base and GS C6 have steel frames - they are stiff enough to be made in convertible and removeable top versions.

The Z06 and ZR1 have aluminum frames - the top is firmly attached to stiffen up the structure.

Welcome to the forum, and post up info if you get a Vette!!!

Thanks for the info, that's what I figured. I'll post pics of the Z06 I end up with.....I'm comfortable with what I've learned and actively looking, just haven't decided on JSB / LMB or AO.

Good luck with your search. I too came from a long line of Mustangs to the Z. You will not be dissappointed.

Do they still refer to the ZO6's as "FRC" Fixed Roof Coupes?

Another successful migration from the blue oval team.... HEHE.. you will love it here as things are generally faster and nicer looking.

Welcome to the Vette Vorld.... Another reason to not having a removable top is to keep the weight of the car down.

No, those were the C5 days. The C6 coupes all have the removable roof panel. The Z06 and ZR1 are not considered coupes and they both have structure underneath the roof panel for strength (it looks as though the roof panel comes off but it doesn't). I believe it was only one year that the C5 coupe had the "FRC" option and that was prior to the C5 Z06 which had a fixed roof as the C6 Z06 and ZR1.

I had a similar dilemma. LMB or AO.

I ended up going with AO because it hides the dust/dirt very well compared to LMB. A very easy color to maintain and a color which almost glows in the direct sunlight.

Unfortunately, pictures don't do it justice so you'll have to see one in person.

I had a 05 Vert with DSOM and it was a sharp color and very easy to keep clean. I now have a 07 AO Z06 and it is a nice color that does attract a lot of attention it’s even easier than the DSOM to keep clean!

Coming from a 2010 GT500 to a 2009 Z06 myself.........you'll love it. Two different animals but the Z06 is for sure a huge upgrade.

Had LMB and AO both. The LMB is a beautiful color and I still miss it at times, but the AO shows the body lines so much better. And Like someone else said, it almost glows in the sun.
