Keep the Z06, or sell and buy the ZR1?
If you could reasonably afford to buy a ZR1, would you sell the Z06 and never look back?

I have gone back and forth on this one a few times. There are some really good deals on the ZR1 and I could pay cash for one, although the 0% financing is tempting. I always come back to the fact that I wanted a 427 vette since I was a kid and I am a big fan of NA motors. Also for that kind of money I could buy a nice used Ferrari F40, and yeah I know it does not perform as well, but it is one beautiful car! So in the end I always come home to my Z06.

I would love a ZR1, but the Z06 with heads/cam is more than enough car for me. Plus, not sure how well that forced induction would do when it comes time to track the car.
Of course, if money were no object, I'd have the Z06 as a track car, a ZR1 as a street monster, and a Grand Sport convertible for the wife.

In a perfect scenerio, if you can reasonable afford to keep your n/a 427 ci Z06, and add a ZR1 to your stable, this would be the best of both worlds!

If I was in your shoes brother and I could REASONABLY afford a ZR-1 would I sell the Z06?
No. I would finish paying off my Z06 if I hadn't yet. Last thing I want would be to start from scratch again with higher payments for a ZR-1 when I could start paying myself with the check I'd be giving the dealership for my Z06 once it's payed off. After it's all said and done I could SAVE for a different type of toy. Luxury such as BMW M6 or sports Car like a Viper or Porsche etc etc. Enjoy a different type of Toy. A ZR1 has the SAME interior, Feel, and look that a Z06 has with the exception of some upgrades.
Better yet you could just BUILD your Z06 into a straight out monster with your self paying checks. Cam out your Z06 and out run a ZR1. You'd still have that extra cash to upgrade anything you want. And when your done upgrading the Z06 Lord knows how fast your yellow vette will be running, you'll still be free from that 4,5,6 year plan you had on that ZR1. If you do wanna pull the trigger, I'd go with something different rather then the same if you know what I'm getting at. Wait on the C7

I just sold my Z06 and bought a ZR1 - both great cars and I like em both....however, the ZR1 (if bought right) IMHO is worth the step up! It is a personal decision that only you can make! Good luck - you can't go wrong either way!

I plan on ordering a 2012 for April or May museum delivery. A dream of mine has always been order the best vette available just like I want it and pick it up at the Bowling Green. I am not willing to give up my bad *** Z06....absolutely a vacation on wheels. I could have done the ZR1 last year if I sold my Z06. Couldn't do it. Waited and now things have lined up where I can have both. I have all my options figured out, just have to decide on color, torn between white, silver, and carbon blue.

Nope, as not at all a fan of the ZR1's extra 200 lbs hanging over the front axle. GM really hit one out of the park on the ZO6 design, but think they got a but lazy on the ZR1 for $120K.

I was pondering this a month or so ago when I was looking at getting a new car. What interested me about the ZR1 in the past was the carbon ceramic brakes, the magnetic selective ride and the performance traction management. Not so much the fact that it has an engine with a super charger bolted on it and makes a hundred or so extra HP.
Then I did some more research and found out that you can now get your Z06 with the Z07 package giving you the awesome ceramic brakes, carbon roof, carbon ground effects, you can get mag. suspension etc. etc. and to boot you get an truly outstanding hand assembled N/A 427 engine, something that I have the feeling is not going to be around for too much longer with the new CAFE regs etc.
So in essence I figured out that I can basically buy a ZR1 with what to me is a more attractive engine package and save roughly 15k (and being honest when you are talking about paying this kind of money for a car an extra 10 or 15k is not going to stop most people from going one way or another). So...what I did was buy a Carbon Edition Z06 lol. I got all of the features of the ZR1 minus a couple hundred lbs and the PMT (which is now available on 2012's) plus I got my 427, got an interior that I absolutely love and have a truly limited edition car. I honestly do not regret my decision to go with the CE Z06 over the ZR1 one bit!

I would rather keep my NA Z...ZR1's are a great car, but are not NA...
IMHO, once they stop building the LS7 motors, they are gone forever, especially with the cafe standars for MPG loom closer...

Wow, please tell me where so I can pick one up. Testarossa's are still commanding around $100k. Pricing on F40's that I've reserached are north of 400.
Back on topic, I voted both.

A few exotics have dropped below the six-figure mark. Thats what I would buy for 100Gs. Saw a 90k Gallardo parked next to a ZR1, it sure made the Chevy look ugly

I have already been through this very delimma.
In mid summer '10 i had come accross a deal for a new ZR1, priced out the door @ 100k. I struggled over the decision for bout week. On a Sundayevening having dinner with parents/other family members I was discussing my delimma with them, and glad I did.
At the time my Z06 was only 5-6 months old. I had bought it new in spring of '10 (it's a '10 model).
I decided not to go to ZR1 for three main reasons.
The main reason was because I had wanted a 427 Vette since the first time I had ridden in one. (1969 427 Coupe in mid 70's).
So, since I had my 427 Vette, I asked myself why did I want to let it go?? (my wallet says only one Vette so make a choice). i did NOT want to let my 427 go because I knew I would regret it. I never drove the ZR, just like I never drove the Z06 before I actually bought it, sight unseen. First time to drive it was after signing papers leaving stealership for 125 mi drive home....(grinning all the way).
I still have that grin btw. So for me, it's a matter of personal taste/desire. In the long term, (really long term) the ZR will do well IMHO in so far as value, but the Z06 may fare well too.
It's really a personal decision and what "you" like and can afford.
For me, it was "427-Z06". That's also on my plates!!

something in the back of my head wants a zr... i could afford one but something in the front of my head keeps me from doing it... to similar to what i have now.. the ls7 is a great motor that has performance as well as excellent mpg...already have owned 2 c6z's.. c7's will be out soon enough ..
i have been watching used zr1 prices and if there is any kind of mileage on them prices drop substantially....so good deals can be had in the used market....new, well they are still a chevy and i have a hard time with the msrp...[ same with new z06 these days]...gonna keep my present z06 till i see what the c7 has to offer

I truly love the look of my Z with the monotone look over the zr1 (dark roof) and I bought my wheel choice I wanted too.............BUT that ZR1 motor !...........tuff call. I'm a hp junkie so maybe, maybe not..........but really other than bragging rights, where do you use it??
