Well 46K miles 28 track events and 3 cross country rallies and my LS7 died a hard dea
Hi guys, It's been a long time since I have posted to the forum. Just a couple things here and there but I had to post this so if anyone is keep track of the engines and their longevity can use my data.
Early 2006 Z06 Vic Red my sweet heart. 46K miles with 28 track days with PDA NASA and some other promoters. MTI Stage II extreme with 21K miles. She was going to Millville Friday the 5th for a big fast weekend. I was on my way just 3 miles from home at my Favorite Sunoco station on Rt 72 filler her up with Ultra 93. I was pulling out with a local Stafford office next tome to a red light 1 st second and Pop Plunk bang and a bunch of white smoke out of the tail pipes, done!!! Dead gone finished, what a feeling!!! It came out of nowhere. Normal everything perfect tone and no engine warnings at all.
Well hey 46K mile with a bunch 21K of hot miles and road racing she said I had enough Ernie!!!
So we are going to rebuild her need new block since this one's toast, steel block is a option would like to build one and see if there's a longevity difference cause it seems that 15-28 track events are a magic number, (so I have been hearing).
The engine dropped a valve, (#7). Rebuild will start shortly, 2008 GM type grooved custom rods to fit the new lifter system, (don;t know the brand Tommy is going to use ), but it is completely adjustable and will be set perfectly. I already have all the oiling upgrades and will be installing the KaTech Blue, blue printed and balanced, oil pump that pushes 30% more oil in the system. double timing chain and that's all I know at this time. as we move forward we will post additional info.
I will keep people posted

I like your attitude and tone. A good post for such bad news. I guess that you feel like you got your money's worth and nobody is to blame. That is definitely a rarity these days.
Rebuild her better than before? AWESOME idea. Good luck.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but it sounds like it served you well.
I was looking over your list of mods.
I wonder what went bad.

It just shows you that when you start racing any combination (sbc, BBC, ls etc) that no matter the parts you put in, they won't last for ever and certainly not 100k of doing so.
At any rate, it will interesting to find out what went!

Just in case the "see the LS7 sucks" people try and use a heavily modded car as an example. Full disclosure helps see things more clearly.
For the mods and track use I'd say the car held up extremely well.
Good luck to the OP on the rebuild, sounds like it's a fun ride and look forward to seeing it back in action.

Ernie, sorry to hear about this, actually VERY sorry
Needless to say I'm probably more interested than your average bear as to what let go, so would really appreciate anything you come up with. Personally I'm at just under 20k miles, but 17k of those are with the stage II extreme package.
Gotta admit, I had already been thinking about checking my valve springs, this might get me to do it sooner than I was planning.
As for blocks, I really don't think going with iron is the best idea, particularly given the way you like to use your car. If you were into drag racing with big N2O loads or turbos I would make more sense. Adding a 100+ lbs over the nose of the car is never a great idea.
There's not much doubt the RHS block is the best way to go, but there's also the ERL you could consider.
Cheers, Paul.

We'll my 2001 LS6 C5Z (when I sold it) had over 70+ track days of which 65% were in advanced run group. It had stock wet sump and at about 20k miles got a G5X3 LG Cam making 425rwhp. Since I sold the car in 2007, it has been through 3 owners who all used the car for track days. Now she has something like 80k miles and is still going strong 10 years later. Back in the day, we never had this many ka-boom stories on the C5Z forums.
