Car is an auto. We bought an auto on purpose because of the MT82 issues. Plus the auto rocks. Car has the premium package, HIDs, remote start, comfort package. It drives really nice and is comfortable. It will make a nice cruiser.

Already have a pile of mods waiting to go on. Roush grill, Califronia special valence with fog lights, GT500 diffuser, GT500 wing, and some other odds and ends. All looks stuff for now.

I may take it to the track tonight to watch but it has 45 miles on it so there is no way I'm racing it.

You need to run it stock and see how it does. I get tired of hearing people claim their car is stock when it isnt. Some Ford guys I know of seem to like sneaking around like that.

whew! i almost freaked out. i'm not a ford fan, but those new 5.0's can be a heck of a drag car. I've seen a few guys throw on the new Kenny Bell supercharger and get 800rwhp with some light mods. it's no joke on the drag strip, but that straight axle suspension isn't going to help you any in the corners!

Having both in the garage is a nice thing. I can take the vette out when I want and the mustang at other times. The mustang is more comfy and quiet. It will be a nice roadtrip car.

So far, nothing produced(*1) in America will top the Z06 or ZR1.
Car & Driver ran the new GT against the new Camero with it being a close one but the Camero slightly ran ahead of the 'Stang.
*1. Production standards from the US Dept of Labor means that a manufacturer must produce (build) 1000 or more units.
R&T has a Mustang Boss 302, at $47k, running the 1/4 in 12.3 sec at 117 compared to the GS which is faster than the BASE C6, running the 1/4 in 12.4 at 116.5, and that stickered at $68k. Pretty close.

You might wanna check up on the new Boss 302. Very impressive around a track. Pretty amazing for a solid axle stock.

Good thing you got the auto trans, my manual trans lasted 2000 miles, took em 1 month to fix it, good thing it was under warranty. AND I babied that car. After the trans went, I dumped the car and bought my third vette!!!

I came VERY close to buying a new 5.0 for my daily driver, so I've been living on the Mustang forums the last few months. PLEASE don't take my word for it, google it yourself......You need to look into serious problems with losing the #8 piston on 2011 and 2012 Mustang GTs after people install an aftermarket tune. The tuners now claim to have a handle on it, but you need to look into it yourself. This was not one particular tuner, but rather a widespread problem. So, look into it before you order a tune. Ford is all over denying warranty claims for tuned cars.

In the end, I didn't buy because the manual MT82 transmission really is a total piece of crap. If it aint got a stick, I aint buyin. If I could have done an auto, I would have jumped. They really are killer cars, and are 300 pounds lighter than a Camaro SS.

Good morning everyone..

Here is some more Grist for the mill.. I love my corvettes and we work on a lot of them, but...

FYI we took a 2011 Mustnag GT to the SCCA runoffs this year. It is a great car and very reliable.

Here are some real life data points...

---we have had NO transmission problems in 11 races.

---For a live rear axle, the car handles VERY well.. You will be surprised.

---The ford 5.0 engine is also very reliable. Tuned, we make about 380hhp at the rear wheels with a restrictor and it revs to 7200 RPMs. 10 races and no issues. None.

---Lap times at Road america were in the 2:27 to 2:28 range. Not far off most c5 T-1 corvettes. About as fast as the porsches 996's and the 370Z.

we use Penske shocks, Hawk brake pads, Ford suspension components and a Torsen rear diff. Car weighs 3650 with driver and no fuel (scca mandated weight) and 150 pounds of ballast.

All in all it has been an EXCELLENT experience racing it. No wheel bearing issues, no engine issues, no transmission issues.. The only real problem was a slave cylinder that leaked after 10 races and occasionally warped stock rotors from heavy usage..

At approximately $31000 with the brembo package this is a great car for he street, and easily upgraded to track day staus..

Ford has done a great job with it.

Joe

California Special Front Valcence with Fogs and Roush Grill. Got home and was bored so I just knocked it out.

As for the #8 issues, I would be more worried about losing a valve in the z06 than a piston in the mustang. There have been 4-5 people tune them really lean and lose a piston. Ohh well. It will either stay stock performance wise or get a roush or edelbrock blower with a warranty. Either way if a piston pops who cares, it is under warranty.

Ford has a simple blower kit, injectors, etc...about $7K I think..on an auto 2011 Mustang GT it made 580 rwhp with EVERYTHING else being stock, down to exhaust. Figure long tube headers and catback and other little suporting mods, that thing is foing to be easily over 600 rwhp through and auto. Not sure if there are any conerters available now for the ford AOD but that should be an easy mid to high 10 second car on a decent drag radial. Stock everything but blower (pump gas btw no meth) and headers and some DR's.

As far as new cars go (that are reasonable) I really only like the Z06, Cady CTS-V, and new Mustang. Dont like the Camaro at all, Mopars are getting close to being likable...but man, for the money, the new Mustang GT is awfully nice.

All things being equal, I would rather have a 2006 Z06 with about 20,000 miles on it for $38K than a brand new Mustang GT. But for a new car, Ford has a winner, period.

Good looking Mustang, look forward to seeing more visual mods!

Sorry to contradict you but a 5.0 2012 mustang will easily beat the camaro ss.Camaro is a 13.2 car while a well driven 5.0 is a 12.8 car all day long.Boss 302 goes 12.35 to 12.4.

Who you contradicting and what are you smoking? Every post here pretty much praises the new Mustang 5.0 and nobody says (in this post) a new Camao SS is faster (because its not and as its at least (the Camaro) 350 to 400lbs heavier).

Of course a 2011/2012 Mustang GT 5.0 is faster in the 1/4 than the considerably heavier 2011/2012 Camaro SS, in either transmission. I also agree with your stated 1/4 times for the Stang. What am I missing, who you contradicting on this point? The new 5.0 Stang is a GREAT street Brawler, but guys are having significant issues with the manual trannys on the new Mustang GT (5.0).
