Value of a z06 after the c7 comes out?
So I’m almost in the market (hopefully by next summer I will have mine) for an older z, 09 and older and some can be found for very reasonable prices like lower 40k. but this is what I’m scared of is that I will end up spending 45k on a nice vette then when the c7 comes out, the c6s value will fall dramatically. Anyone have an opinion on this… should I just wait or go ahead and get a z because Im not gonna sell it for a very long time if ever

It's hard to say. There is always a drop when the new model comes out. On the other hand, the Z06 values have dropped significantly already due to economy and saturation so it might not be too bad. Plus this will probably be the end of the 427 which will help value.
Another thing to consider is with waiting it is possible that the new one's will not have great deals the first year and you are talking a new car that depreciates badly compared to used.
Lastly, you only live once and if you constantly worry about the value/changes of the model you might never get one. I currently have an 07Z. I am itching for change so i might get another new one or a used ZR to cure my itch until 2014-2015 for the next Z06/Zr1.

I'm absolutely certain beyond a shadow of a doubt the C7 will be spectacular, but better performance than the LS-7/9? That's yet to be seen.
The LS-7/9 speak for themselves, drive one and you'll see the value, be it past-present or future.

That will all depend on how well the c7 is received. Usually there is a drop in previous models prices when a new one comes out. That said just take a look at C5 prices and they are in line with today's pricing. Also it is doubtful that they will introduce more than the base coupe/vert at launch, and if there is a Z06/ZR1 version we may see it following year. This may also bring the end of the 427 which may make the Z06 more valuable. it's anybody's guess.

Why would you care if the value drops? Is it going to be a garage queen so then you can sell it later and someone else enjoy it?
These cars are NOT investments, they are not like C1's that hold collector's value...
As a suggestion, just buy the nicest one you can, lowest mileage, drive it and enjoy it! If the C7 comes out, then let it be it!
Then again, you might like the C7 so you can also wait for it to come out and test drive it, but don't be concerned about value since it's all about supply and demand!

being that there's over 26,000 of them on the street won't help the value of a Z06 unless you can wait 50-100 years for an uptick.
Who knows, maybe I'm way off....

well this is what I guess Im saying. Im 23 and Ive worked really hard for the things I have even though I plan on keeping and driving it for a very long time I just would hate to spend 40k plus and a year or so later the car only be worth 30k or less.... guess it not a big deal since I plan to keep it but it would be nice to know that the car is worth reasonably close to what you paid for it.

Hey guy....you have answered your own question. If you want a Z06, get it. Enjoy it for what they are....naturally aspirated FAST Vettes. If you want FI, get you a ZR1.....will they depreciate?....h3ll yeah, so if you think your investing in something collectable, a C6 Vette is NOT it. If your in your 20's and hold on to it till your in your 60's....I would bet money you made a good investment.....but that's 40 year wait and IT WILL depreciate like any other car.
To note, the ZR1 was voted one of the most COLLECTABLE cars of the century and I do assume that the ZR and even possibly Z0 will someday be collectible.....but NOT today.......like I said maybe 40-50 years from now....and their sure to depreciate when C7 arrives, especially if there is a Z0 or ZR model produced......I hoping they will because I personally plan to add a ZR along side my Z0....
So for today, get one and enjoy it for what it is....

Right now, I think an early model C6Z is the bargain of the century. Some folks are getting low mileage Z06's in the high 30's. At that price, it is a no brainer with regard to performance per dollar. I personally would NOT drop $75-85k on a new one at this point. I think the C7 base with probably match the C6Z performance wise (like when the C6 came out).
Unless you want the latest technology, styling, and curb appeal, get a low mileage used C6Z. Then in 2 years you can trade it in for a C7 if you want, and your losses will be minimalized vs. buying a full price new C6Z now.

3LZZ06 is right on point, here. Maybe someday C6Z06s will be worth money but that's a LONG way down the road. It's very difficult to find a car that doesn't go down in value after purchase. Some more than others. Z06s probably won't depreciate as much as, say, the standard Vette, but depreciate they will. Cars just aren't good investments.
Buy a car. Use it. Enjoy it. Maybe if our kids or grand kids hold on to our Zs after we boot they'll make a buck someday.

What's the C7 even going to look like? If it looks like that car in transformers the c6z value is gonna go up cause that thing was the ugliest Chevy I have ever seen

I say if you're worried about the money then don't get one.

I'm in the same boat as you and get where you're coming from. I graduate next month and plan on saving for a year or maybe a little more and then putting a big down payment on a used one. Except I'm banking more on it going down in price from the C7 and people getting rid of them to buy a C7...i mean I have no problem paying the prices they are now but why pay 45k when you can pay 35k just more money to mod

I never saw the C5z drop in price when the C6 came out. Remember, there will be plenty of people who will like the old model (C6) better than the C7 when it comes out. It always takes a while to warm up to the "New Vette".

They'll be priceless (not making them anymore).

It appears that the C7's are scheduled to come out in late 2013 as a 2014 model, the C7Z, if one comes out at all (I bet it will), will most likely be at least a year away after the base model comes out....so you are looking at almost 3 years or so before a C7Z comes out that will out perform the C6Z....that's a long time to wait, and those first models may sell for a premium anyway. With that in mind, it's hard to pass up the performance of a C6Z now.
