More power does not help anything at our level of power. Both cars are at the margin for streetable naturally aspirated. I roast the tires at will in 2nd gear, so another 10 to 20 more hp would mean nothing.

Handling improves dramatically with weight reduction.

Fill the tires with helium and shed some serious unsprung weight!

Basically by not allowing the removal of any interior factory components, this comes down to who wants to spend the most money on lightweight parts like carbon fiber (everywhere), high dollar lightweight rims, brakes.... God knows what other ultra lightweight parts are out there but I am curious to see the results!

That's about right. We share components, and have the same carbon fiber shop doing our parts in Grafton, WI. They have been the shop that Pratt and Miller had making the C6.RS parts a few years ago before P&M started doing their parts in house.

Unnecessary items like the AC are fair game, since that is a luxury item here in Wisconsin with the average Summer temp at about 80F. The first non essential were the floor mats, and rear cover and net. -4 lbs.

Next will be the windshield washer tank and brackets. Gary of SteathTitanium has removed that on his Z06, and saved 4 lbs I believe.

The Porsche GT2 RS is built to my standards (I actually admire that car), but they introduced that car after I started my project Ultraleggera. Was Porsche watching?

Here are some of the GT2 RS lightweight features.

Lightweight construction.
Anyone who wants to go beyond
the horizon has to work on their
performance – and concentrate
on strength. The way to achieve
this is to make sacrifices. But only
with regard to weight. The new
911 GT2 RS is 70 kg lighter than
the 911 GT2. Its weight-to-power
ratio: just 2.21 kg/hp. For excellent performance. And with relatively moderate fuel consumption.
This is achieved thanks to a whole
series of modifications. In particular, the use of materials that
are more typically found in motorsport. The front lid, the side air
intakes on the charge air cooler,
the slats in front of the front lid,
the rear middle section, the rear
spoiler lip and the rear wing are
all constructed from carbon. As
are the lightweight bucket seats
and door sills with the ‘RS’ logo.
The front mud flaps are also
available in carbon as an option.
Instead of the usual steel, the
diagonal struts on the rear axle
are made from aluminium. As are
the fixed calipers of the PCCB on
the front and rear axle. The engine
cover, rear window and rear side
windows are made from a synthetic
material. In addition to this, the
new 911 GT2 RS has lightweight
door panels with side pads and
door pulls. Throughout the body,
much of the soundproofing has
been removed and the interior
soundproofing has also been
reduced.
The lightweight single mass
flywheel makes the engine even
more responsive. Weight has
even been reduced in the body
structure: there are no fittings for
a roof transport system and there
are no reinforcements for fastening the seat belts in the floor.
The battery in the new 911 GT2 RS
is also lighter. A lithium ion battery
which provides an additional weight
saving of over 10 kg compared to
the conventional standard battery
is available as an option. The
lithium ion battery is inserted in
the vehicle and can easily be
replaced by the standard battery
for use on the racetrack.
In addition, you can opt to do
without the CDR-30 audio system,
the air conditioning and the
Clubsport package. To achieve an
even lower power-to-weight ratio.

Our ZR1 roof and halo should be here in about 10 days. Jason can announce our next mod when he is ready to. I have pictures of it, but he gets the honors.

Jim

Jim
The surprising part will be that the halo seems like a lot bigger savings then the roof. I didn't weigh them, but it seemed drastic. I'll be interested in what the scale says.....

The one Katech is making now. We were going to make a mold, but Katech jumped on it before us, so we let them develop it.

Our car has the first of its kind, -33 lbs!!!

Our GT2 hood shaves off -14 lbs.

The minute I fill out my 2011 tax return forms I will be ordering the GT2 hood, to complement my CF-112! IMHO it's the sickest looking carbon fiber hood on the market!

I'm going to say that the best dollar per pound weight reduction that I did was the Braille 2015 battery. It saves about 10lbs and is under $200.

How reliable have you found this battery to be?
