Default Finally broke into the 10s!!! Personal best on Motor and Nitrous

Went out to the drag strip last night with a few buddies to take advantage of the cool air that's finally made its way down to Texas. It was about 50* the DA was around -160. My goal was to figure out how to launch this thing before the night was over! I hadn't had a chance to realy practice with my new drag radials at the track. I tried to make a few passes on them about a month ago, but the track officals had everything screwed up the night of the test&tune and i only got to make 3 runs in 3 hours. (and the last run, their computer went down, nice) I bogged on all three launches and couldn't get under a 2.0 60ft. Anyway, back on subject. I was the first one of my crew to show up at the track and after about 20 minutes of waiting on my slow poke friends, i decided to get in a couple practice runs. I backed into the water box, did a light burnout to heat the tires, rolled up to the line brining my RPMs to about 5000. I slipped the clutch just a tad, then a quick release. And what do you know, no bog, i shot out of the hole quicker than i ever have, had smooth shifts at 6900 and posted up a 10.863@129.49 with a 1.74 60ft!!! Bad news was i didn't get that one on video. oh well, i'm not a patient man.

Now i know that a 1.74 60ft isn't anything but average for the more experianced guys, but i was pretty jazzed up about it since i am finally figuring it out. With a little more practice i know i can get down in the 1.6-1.5 range. Go figure my first pass was the best one, had a few other 10.9s but with higher 1.7s and 1.8 60s.

Now that i was getting better at launching the car, i felt brave enough to go ahead and turn on the juice. I made two passes on the nitrous. The first one i rolled out on the launch to see how it was going to feel. I just swapped out the pills to run a 125 shot and added a bit of torco to keep it safe. 2nd run was the best. I felt i had a good launch, but you'll notice in the video i had the wheels get one little hop which took away from the smooth release. But holy cow, i felt like Wile E Coyote with a rocket strapped to my back! 10.472@139.95 140mph in 10seconds is a heck of a rush!! i highly recomend it....

That ended up being my last pass. I wanted to make a couple more because i felt i could get at least a 10.3-10.2 with a better launch. For some reason on my last few runs my oil pressure started tanking big time at the end of the track when i was slowing down and on the brakes. The first couple didnt seem like that big of a deal, going down to about 30PSI. But the last pass it dropped to 10, so i put it in neutral and reved it to get the pressure back up. After that, it was only idling at 30PSI and it's usually 50-60. I started it up this morning and it's completely back to normal, so i'm not sure what the deal was. I'm getting it checked out this week since i'm now on my 3rd oil pressure sensor in the last 2 months.

Overall it was a pretty great night. Got hang out with some friends in their cars. Met up with a couple fellow forum members, Probeach in his bolt on LS3 A6 vert, who hit his personal best with a 11.8x @116, and PreZ06 was there in his FRC who also broke into the 10's last night with an insane 1.4x 60ft!!! congrats buddy!

I also owe a shout out to Fartpipe for helping me pic out my wheels and tires, as well as some launch advice. Thank you sir!

Here's my run on nitous.

and the two time slips

So other than the nitrous and wheels, what has been done to the car?

Great job man and GREAT driving, your really hauling the mail at 10.4, at 140mph.

Great write up also as you can really feel your enthusiasm, always feels great to do GREAT at the track, a reach personal bests/goals, and the car sounds MEAN on the video (and looks great to).

Thanks guys. Yes it was a good time. As far as mods go on the car:
Stock wheels on front, 17x11 zr1 replicas with Hoosier 315s
Black mamba cam /stock heads
Halltech KBII cai
Ported stock intake and TB
American Racing 1 7/8in headers with high flow cats
Full 3in exhaust with muffler mod
Custom tune, compliments of Quality Motorsports

The motor makes 550rwhp and 505tq
The 100 wet shot made 665/642 on the dyno. I was spraying a 125shot last night so you do the math....

I'm getting the heads done this winter and then the motor will be complete.

Stock clutch? How many passes and mileage if it is? Congrats on the 10s.

Man, how fast did that truck go?

Ah yeah, the clutch is not stock. I dropped in the LS9 from Katech earlier this year. Its handled the abuse quite well.

That's obnoxiously loud dodge ran pretty well, it was running high 12s if I remember correctly.

That nitrous pass is an EASY 9 second pass with the right 60'! A 1.4X or 60' or better and your in the 9's!

I agree. I'll get it there eventually with a little more seat time. I wasn't even trying to shed any weight yet either. I'll get a set of skinnies on the front, pull out the passenger seat, floor mats, and the handful of wrenches I had I the rear storage compartment! Just wanted to see what it would do in normal conditions.

Very VERY nicely done!!! I have no idea how I missed this thread. Absolutely fantastic job man! Car looks badass and sounds even better! I feel like I just saw my first booby i was so excited watching that video. You sir will be have A LOT more fast times in your near future. Can't wait till the 9second runs come cause with that MPH and a decent 60ft you will be all over that! KEEP it coming! Just keep the rubber side down.

Lol! Thanks Bruce, believe me seeing that timeslip was pretty much equal to seeing my first "booby!" and I'm sure my future timeslips will also go along with the known saying,... once you've seen one pair,.....you pretty much want to see the rest of them! Ha!

I'm looking forward to more seat time and perfecting the launch. This was my first real session on a prepped track so I know I'll be able to cut down this 60fts with some practice. My goal will be to hit a 9.9x this spring.
