2008 - they switched to a new transmission - much better in lots of people's opinions and minds (usually the ones that have 2008 or newer Z06s...go figure) and a few other tweaks (interior pieces look a little better). People that tell you a TR6060 is not better than the older tranny is in denial (or most likely has a 2006-2007 car). Again, NOTHING wrong with the old tranny, but, technology evolves and with such, products improve. These can be had for US$ 40,000 to 50,000 depending on miles and condition.

2009 - bigger dry sump and new wheel options - and blue tooth...spend a little more as well - maybe around US$ 50,000

2010 - 2011 - obviously the newest of the bunch...US$ 55,000 to US$ 60,000 used - great cars and if you can get this then that would be the way to go. If you can afford more, get a new one and be done with it.

I respectfully disagree with statement regarding T56/T6060. In fact, I own a '10 model so that alone refutes the statement that those that say otherwise likely own T56. That also shows you I am NOT in denial. Since we all know that the '10 model has T6060, I can tell you I've driven (2007) w/T56. When I did so my Z was practically new (few months old at the time). For the purposes of comparrison.

I've driven a couple '07's in fact. The last time was checking a '07 'Z out (here in Texas) for a forum member in New York, who subsequently purchased the car (without ever having saw it in person).

That car shifted just like mine does. That '07 was just as strong as my '10. And it had 4x's the mileage on ticker as mine did at the time. I could tell no difference in the way/feel of the shifts.

....just as a street car, Z's equipped with T56 do not shift any differently than the T6060 (IMO-'07 vs '10)....

Are there differences otherwise? Yes. But NOT the way it shifts. Since I own T6060, I do NOT believe I am in denial....just my honest un-biased opinion......thanks.

I must mention that the dealership also added kooks longtube headers, high flow cats, corsa exhaust and a tune - all for the same price. The car is crazy fast and turns every head... good luck with the purchase.

Wow....grats.

Problem is there were only (518) 2010's built. Not much selection in that year and likely difficult to find.

I owned an '08 3LZ but if I were buy one today it would be at least an '09 with the 10.5 qt oil capacity. I'd still have to have the 3LZ package, and '09s have bluetooth and the rear hatch pulldown assist which are very convenient accessories to have IMO

Torque capacity T56 - 500
Torque capacity 6060 - 600

Hmmmmm....

Not to mention triple synchronizers on 1st and 2nd....wider gears...improvements to the shifter...etc

Perhaps you've never experienced the joy of cooler weather driving....but drive a T56 below 50 degrees as a daily ride and you know why it's not a lot of fun. If you indeed had a good T56 (rare) color yourself lucky

No, I have NOT driven one (T56) in cool/cold weather. Was hot weather as we have here in Texas. I do understand how the cool weather affects mine....more pep for sure. And when it's cold, it is notchy....but goes away when it gets to operating temp.

I respectfully accept your disagreement. : )

I have also had both...an 06 and an 08...and have driven plenty of 06s, 07s and 08s...as well as a couple of 09s and 10s (never an 11). I can tell right away when I am drving a 56 or a 60. To "me", the 60 feels...for lack of better words...better. It could be all in my head.

You my friend are pretty funny...

I "still" have my STOCK T56 and it shifts just fine.

I drive the **** out of it and I'm making 850ft/lbs/tq. with MT/345's DR's

It's proven and tested to hold. I'm proof.

Now, if it breaks, I will update it to the 6060 but until then it stays as is.

I don't drag the car but only do high speed rolls in Mexico but it works for what we do..

Just my .02

Nothing wrong with 2006/2007
If you want to spend an extra $10k to get a "better" transmission and an upgraded oil cooler go for it
otherwise theres alot of mod money left on the table

I LOVE my 06 BTW!!

The tranny in my 06 has never had a single problem. Never hard to get it gear. Never hard to shift fast. Accurate. Never have missed a shift. I'm sure the 6060 is an upgrade but mine works great. Having wider gears is subjective good or bad.

Thank you everyone and great responses. I will continue to do my homework as I have a little time left before I am ready to buy. Until then I will continue to read through this site to get more educated and hear different opinions.

You could buy a 2006 c6 z06 for around 30k if your lucky enough. Forget all the little upgrades. You will get pretty much 95% of the same product with a lighter and faster Vette. Wish you the best of luck!

Default My Opinion

For most speed w/ lowest price - 06

For more comfort and a little less speed - 08 +

06 was the Meanest of the Z's in my opinion

My former 06 ran .4 sec and 4 mph faster than my current 07 with less mods/tuning. Both had 2LZ pkg w/ GY SC's (06's Kick AZZ!!!!)
